Pixel Art / Re: Learning to AA
« on: June 21, 2009, 05:12:40 am »
The picture looks great! Your AA looks pretty blurry though. You need to keep in mind when doing this manually, what your intention is for each pixel. most aa routines take varying amounts of samples from around each pixel to come up with some averaged value for the pixel being AA'd. they don't stray from that formula and they do what they do pretty well. So why do it yourself? You know more about the picture (and the point that you're representing with each pixel) than a simple algorythm can.   This here document "A pixel is not a little square!" Is possibly outdated but it goes a good way into various sampling methods and it really helped me understand more about AA.

edit ptoing: the link was messed up, fixed it.

indeed. and it's the pieces wot transcend the bpp mathemo trig shit that stand out most in my mind. (not that they don't employ a deep and broad knowledge of such)

I've found that a watched egg never boils. NEVER D:

Wouldn't y'all be much happier not waiting around impatiently?
NO.

If again one of the tiles fails, how about this:

The fastest tile maker gets it, not the fastest claimer? Which means, in order to claim it, you must send the finished tile to Ptoing? Yes, that might result in you working on the tile and then someone else finishing it a bit quicker, but it solves the current problem.

not to be rude, but sounds like a meritocracy, which ptoing possibly deliberately but either way managed to avoid throughout.

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Dungeon Romp (Animations!)

I tried to apply most of your guys' crits of the swing to the knight's stab, hopefully that turned out okay.  The walk looks kind of weird so I might mess around with the knees a bit.  I feel satisfied with the bug death.

Don Risotto: Yeah, I see your point.  I'm not uploading the new animation because I'm being pressed for time and I'm satisfied with how it looks, but I moved the shield up a bit more during the peak of the swing.
Regulus: I feel like that might be because the depth isnt really visible because I didn't shade the arm, I see what you mean though.
Corsair: Thank you very much for the edit!  Definitely taught me quite a bit about smoothness, hopefully you can see some of your crits applied in the knight's attack.  If I have a bit more time before friday I'll see if I can update the character swing even more, I did a little bit of editing but I looked at your post again and realized that I missed half of what you said.  I'll definitely upload an improved version sometime though.

the one pixel shift actually makes it look loads more convincing imo

It should be done soon.  And it blends MUCH better now.

blends better. dunno about "MUCH better" though, but meh, i don't wanna be the guy bitching around

anyway guys,
just asking cause i'm generally interested in ppls modus opperandi (also concerning older projects like the isocollab):
do you (A) think about possible executions of a tile prior to claiming it or do you (B) just claim it and try to improvise with the option of giving it back or start some trade?

i'm type A.

well, why wouldn't you be? I know for me, the hardest part of anything is the beginning ;), and with something like this, it's already done. sweet.

Hi! I liked jad's crazy poring avatar so much I decided to shamelessly rip it off was inspired to make this metroid themed version!
  - Jad's

I'm just about confident enough to post this single frame. The pallette is 15 colours + trans. and I'll start animating it tonight I think.

slight update

Critique appreciated! (be gentle  :'()
