Lowered his facial features, fixed up a few areas, and made some of the colors a tad more vibrant.

Thanks for the edit, LoTekK

EDIT:

better, or worse?

I agree with helm about Faktablad's smileys. You do a great job at using the entire face to portray the emotion.

I know I'm not that good at pixel art, but I want to improve, so if you guys have any crits for this piece, I'd be more than glad to hear them.

Here's a quick edit I did of the pants:

I feel as if you didn't really pay attention to LoTekK's edit earlier. The shading is EXTREMELY messy all throughout the piece. It's extremely difficult to determine the light source, and it looks blurry. I think you really just need to simplify things: pick a light source and a good few shades, and then do the basic shading. Don't get too complicated or it's going to look like a big mess. Dithering isn't necessary for a piece this small, and can really make it look worse. You don't need nearly as many colors as you have, either. Pay attention to the edits, and learn from them.

I'll let someone more knowledged correct your anatomy issues.

try to choose a consistent light source when shading. Also, I think you could do with some more contrast. And also, if you intend to use this i some kind of game, a nice dark outline would do it some good.

I'm familiar with AA and dithering- I prefer a young, smooth surface for his skin however. As for the AA, I'm going to wait until I've finished the whole thing until doing so in case I change anything.

if you're trying to make him look younger than I think you have way too many wrinkles and detail in his face already. Also, AA will help give it a smoother look.
