you can also use the touhou danmakufu engine for this; specifically designed for bullet hell shmups (but can work for regular ones too)

just a few thoughts.

i like the feel to it.  it's still obviously just a start but i like the direction.

something that i didn't realize at first was the yellow-winged ships; i thought that they were engines on the side of the ship, might be interesting to break the generic shmup mold.

another thought is switching around the score and the weapon select since most people read left to right, the first eye place they should look is at the weapon, not score.  the HUD is nice though, very simplistic.

i don't know if banding is a large issue for you, but it can be pretty distracting.  looks lovely overall though!

i would extend the handle on the pistol, or at least make it skinnier (it seems a bit fat right now)
as for the background, one thought would be to change each one to a different color (red heavy, orange close combat, etc. etc.)

for the bat: perhaps move the grip up a bit? a little more metal at the bottom.

the last row of mountains (furthest from us) could get lighter.
i don't know what you have planned for the foreground, but it definitely needs something.
also, about the items, there is a lot of outlines (i'm a hypocrite for saying that :P)

my real issue (which seems to have been fixed a little) is that it appears as just a regualr ship with a condominium tacked on.  The later updates fix this a little, but i can't really get that 'factory' feeling out of it.

well lesse, a few things that stick out to me:
-top right side of the helmet, liked V1 better, but the edit to the other side was good as it seemed there was too much noise.
-there is little-no anti-aliasing
-how many colors in the eyes?
-the outlines are painfully present, find a way to either remove them or make them less noticeable.
-helmet and face seem facing slightly different directions.\
-there's a bit of banding, but the rest should probably bee cleaned up first.
otherwise looks good.
