Pixel Art / am I on the right path?

hey there, working on a game with my friend.

any thoughts? it's still extremely early work.

Problems: we're developing this for phones so it needs to remain low-res (original 36x, top row, is too high-res)

Is it readable though? A lot was lost.  The hastati doesn't have his spear or shield yet, which may add more to it.

never actually figured out what NES restrictions were, This was my attempt.  I cut corners with the legs too, is that noticeable?

Your brother says that you do sprite sheets. Any chance you could help me out if you have some time?

1I can't draw for shit but I'm starting to work on a game. I could use a simple sprite sheet of just a blocky 8bit guy and a simple walking animation. Kind of like this, but 8bit and not shitty

that work? probably not as blocky as you'd like and i cut corners with the run cycle, but should work as a placeholder.

Pixel Art / Re: Struggling with forest fade

Just a thought, the scene seems very open. Maybe it should feel more claustrophobic since it's a forest?  I do really like the palette though.  I'd certainly play this game :]

it looks better certainly.  But now that you've brought the back leg forward it no longer demands the intense shading you've added (to the last leg position).  The sword also looks pretty good, i'd be careful about banding though, especially on the skull. very nice :)

is that a window? it looks incredibly flat, and we should only be able to see grass outside of it.  In fact, I would entirely remove the window unless you put grass tile around the house.  other than that, technically solid; i would up the contrast a little and tone down the saturation.  The seats also appear to have no apparent light source.  Judging from the fridge i'd say it's the window?

very nice, my concern would be that the palette's are so similar that the characters could lose some individuality brought on by what st0ven said about the "nighttime" palette.

I find them quiet good but, IMO, I find that the holes in the black look like someone shredded the birds' wings, I'm not sure if you mean to do that or not.

i think it's just unfinished at the moment.

I think it looks wonderful at the moment, can't wait to see the final piece.

General Discussion / morals of photographs

is it against pixeling practice to take a photograph of something with the specific intention of tracing and pixeling over as an ends to a means?  I know that it's mostly frowned upon to trace, what are your thoughts?
