Dude I flippin love this. That giant sword scene is just inspiring.

Thank you very much. I’ve been having a lot of trouble getting backgrounds to turn out the way I want and been in kind of a slump. Seeing an encouraging comment has given me a little bit more hope. Thanks a bunch!

Good day folks!

Just gonna dump a few assets here from Project Lantern, a dark fantasy side-scroller with a lot of focus on lighting and narrative. I’ve been juggling this idea around for a few months, and at the end of January teamed up with a mister Andrew Clearihan who is helping me code out a demo/POC of sorts. The funny thing is, I don’t currently have a CPU (only an IPad), so the plan as of the moment is that I keep working on design and story elements and chocking out assets, while Mr. Clearihan does the dirty work of coding the project in GameMaker Studio. So far we’re on a slow but steady track but hopefully once we get a second programmer and, most importantly, I get my computer back (long story), we’ll be able to make steady progress.

In the meantime, feast your eyes!. . . Or just give them a snack, totally your call. Not one to judge.

Gargoyle Static

Weapon Tests

Some progress on modular pieces. This also includes the gargoyles.

Current iteration of main character’s Weathered Armor set.

Pallete Test

Silhouette Test for Demo/First Boss: The Witchknight

Some pretty rough concept art.

(Animations are also complete but I’m currrently trying to find a way to post those on this forum from my iPad. Stay tuned)

Pixel Art / Re: [Feedback] Person Project Works, Looking to Improve Color

I wanted to thank you for giving me such a long and informative critique. I haven’t been able to fully analyze it due to the chaos of the current situation I live in, but I sincerely thank you for giving me so much to work with.
Color Theory is likely the area I’m weakest in, and I know the only way to change that is practice. That being so, do you have any recommmended resources I could read through in regards to color theory? I don’t always have time to draw, but I do sometimes have time to read snippets of James Gurney’s Color and Light and such from time to time.

Pixel Art / [Feedback] Person Project Works, Looking to Improve Color
« on: February 24, 2018, 03:12:27 am »
Ive got a few mock ups for a game project I’ve been working on recently, and I’m trying to figure out what I’m screwing up with my color. This piece was not taken completely to finish, as I want to do some more work on the background and such, and it was simply an attempt to nail down the atmosphere of this first intro-level without going to far into details. The problem I’m having is that I feel the colors are off somehow. I come from a sketching/drawing background and I am at home with pencil and ink, but pixel art is something I’ve only recently hopped into. I’m trying to get better at color theory and making more eye pleasing combinations, but I can safely say it is my weakest area. Recently I’ve been trying to study what color combinations work from photography images and color picking and trying to blind-eye get a pallete that hits the same streak, but without the right knowledge on color theory that can only get me so far. Any help and critique would be highly appreciated.
