Pixel Art / Help on hair
« on: October 09, 2010, 12:22:55 am »
Hi everyone. I haven't been able to be active since I have no internet at home, but I have done some small 1 hour works pixel art here at the public library using these computers.

Can anyone critique me the hair of this face I made? I was trying to do Selene, from the Underworld movies.

*removed*

And any other tips. I will be working more on this. Can't really do much for now since my time is over for the day and this place will close haha... I will reply on monday hopefully.

This is the reference I used to get idea on the details:

General Discussion / CHARAMAKER PRO WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
« on: August 13, 2010, 10:39:45 pm »
Hahaha yeah, finally translated into English and free for download here:

http://rpgcrisis.net/forums/files/file/46-character-maker-pro/

For those of you who don't know, charamaker PRO (not like the spanish named translation of charamaker1999, but the REAL program which is the next version of that) is been out for a while, but it was in japanese. So someone finally translated it. I used the program, it is just as good as charamaker1999 but it has many more new features, including layers and an advanced animator... the only problem is that you'll have to study the manuals to learn how to use the program propertly. I was clicking around, and I could get around giving the fact that I am a veteran with CM1999, but still, there is a lot to learn even for me.

I deffinitely recommend that you download this program, and see if it works fine for you. I'm really excited about this (you can tell by the title subject haha), I have seen some japanese artists use it before and since back then I hoped that someone would translate it... and so it is there.

Pixel Art / 48x48 Pixel Art video + RTP face video
« on: August 05, 2010, 06:50:59 am »
Video #2 posted on August 10th, 2010:

Posted another video I made. I need critique on this one as well, thanks a lot everyone. Also, I made this before I got all these pointers and edits from all of you, so all you guys helped me with to improve the faces, I will apply it on the 3rd video. I was really tired when making this, and couldn't stop at the time, so I had to cut few small change frames, such as the coloring process in the end... also this explain why I messed up in the oval measure figure /  rough lineart really bad at first... at least I'm glad I saved the piece somehow lmao.

Video #1 posted on August 5th, 2010:

I made this couple weeks ago... I was messing around for a little bit, took an hour off and did this video. First video I make of me making pixel art, I want to do more complex well thought stuff in the future, this time around I didn't know what to draw, lol I think it shows in the process. But anyways, I would like to get some comments on the process and all, the final image as well under the links there in the video description.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah, my first attempt into making a realistic portrait of a girl. Comment, edits and critique really appreciated. This took me about 4 hours and some minutes so far. Willing to work more on it if you guys find any significant amount of things that could improve it's quality.

Pixel Art / Tips on a certain sprite, mostly shoes please. :)
« on: June 01, 2010, 12:13:19 am »
There is a contest going on DA, Fantasy Earth Zero, so for the fun of it I did a depiction of the character #5 the other day.

Apologies for the 1x - 2x since I'm linking to this picture straight from my DA account gallery.

And the deviation link here: http://antifarea.deviantart.com/art/FEZ-Character-5-Alt-sprite-165343001?q=sort%3Atime+gallery%3Aantifarea&qo=0

I know I messed up past the knees :\ Trying to get her to have sorta shiny white heels. Any tips? and on any other nasty stuff you can find hahaha.

Thanks in advance. Edits are welcome.

Hey, been a while since I dropped by in here... on part of my spare time I decided to create a face template, that will be used freely by anyone who needs a face base... for now the license will stay as CC-BY-SA 3.0, but I might change it once it is completed and shading has been fixed.

As you can see, I need pointers in the shading, mostly on the face... I have been studying this tutorial about shading faces:

The original link to the deviation / author's page here:
http://what-i-do-is-secret.deviantart.com/art/Basic-Face-Shading-Placement-36852415?offset=60

Well, I need your opinions, and help on this, it's appreciated. If you wanna edit it or something, that's also a plus.

Pixel Art / Help with Superhero
« on: November 07, 2009, 12:17:21 pm »
I need some pointers on this super hero sprite I made. What I would like to know is how well or bad are the shading, anatomy and the color combination...

I'm using this as a reference=

I changed the hair, cause I couldn't get that bloodly haircut still, so I made him kinda spikey and round

Also I really can't get done the mask propertly, so I'm giving him glasses... anyone has any suggestions for that? proper feedback is always welcome, thanks in advance.  :D

EDIT:

Very important=

Can you make a gradient that resembles the 3D reference character using this palette? I just wanna have a better idea how to get the colors to look as close as possible, kind of to give that shiny blue / gray / white look it as... here's the palette I'm using. Any physical edits would come in handy too.

General Discussion / Pixel art, a rare skill to be learned?
« on: October 30, 2009, 01:15:25 pm »
Maybe I'm miscalculating this, but this is something I've been thinking for a while now... I really don't believe there are more than 30,000 pixel artists in the entire world... go to deviantart, most art you see is either traditional, mangas or CG illustrations... go to most Rpgmaker forums... NO ONE other than 3-5 out of 20,000+ members make pixel art... what do you say? do you think that there are more than 30,000 pixel artists in the entire world? give your opinion and your estimate number, you might wanna say why you think so as well.

...by the way, I know I said "skill" even though we all know Pixel art is an style of art... I put it as "skill" as in to "knowing how to make pixel art" not trying to change the true definition of the word.
