How do you put up in a job application that you are a freelance pixel artist? I know this sounds self-explanatory but some people don't tend to accept that when I put it in since I'm a freelancer who doesn't really work through contracts (even though my employers are legit and well known).

Have any of you guys gone to the local mall to get a day job and have to explain that pixel art is what you pretty much have been doing for a living for some time now.

So yeah, how do you put it nice on the paper so they can understand and or verify / etc that you're not making things up? Does this make any sense? Thanks in advance.

Ummmm why in the world would you put up your weakest work here? I've seen the gallery, looks nice. Grab some of those instead. :)

Why not? :) Also, those two usernames are taken already. Sucks. Also, what happened to the banner and all the ads and so on?

You need to handle your confidence issues completely Carnivac, as this is an area that will hinder your entire life, from successfully interacting with beautiful women, to successfully negotiating with potential employers, etc. Confidence is one of the four major key traits in a man that conveys to others an idea of who he might be, so don't take it for granted. Don't question it either, just accept it. And if anything, fake it till you make it haha.

So just practice acting confident about life in general and eventually, through repetition you will automatically feel confident about handling most situations that come across you. Another thing, you need to start taking on a lot of freelance jobs from now on, and work for different employers, and discover for yourself what you like, what you don't like, etc. That's how I came to a conclusion as far as how much I want / need to get paid and what jobs I wanna work and what not.

The way I put a price in my works is based on my current skill and time, compared to how much pixel artists of my level get paid. My range at this moment is from USD $12-20 hourly. I set prices on individual items based on the time required to make them, and also the quality demanded from the employer. Whether I work for pay-per-resource or hourly rate depends on the job offered, and also depends if the employer is willing to give the option (in which case I'll decide if it's worth taking on the gig or not).

Not everyone can make pixel art. We are unique in this world, we truly are. There are no more than 30,000 pixel artists in the entire world. Combine all the artists in Pixelation, Pixeljoint, Pixiv and a few other communities out there along with the Japanese, Spanish, Etc hobbyist pixel artists too and you will not get past that estimated number.

Fair enough. I will do that. There are many threads out there as of right now... and I don't take on these employers (I already have a job), my point is that it just seems it just never ends haha, whenever I check that section, there are a lot of those topics, all the time.

If you are an employer who's making a decent amount of money, you should pay whoever you hire.
All I want is for things to be fair here, and people to at least take the job section in a serious and realistic manner.

*ends rant*

It takes time to make quality art like that. 12 minutes does not allow anyone to design / pixel a character like that, even for a person whose best pixel art skill is speed. Your payment rate at this point seem unrealistic. I would recommend that you consider doing a kickstarter or something to fund your project so you would be able to pay appropriate rates to whom you hire as an artist. Good luck dude.

Opengameart.org is very proud to announce that we are collaborating with the Free Software Foundation and the Creative Commons to bring you the Liberated Pixel Cup, a two month long summer contest about creating a consistent set of art and then making awesome games with it!

As you might imagine, this is big news for OGA -- there's no better way for us to further our mission of bringing artists and developers together to make awesome free and open source games than having the opportunity to work together with the CC and the FSF towards making that happen!

So, what are you waiting for?  Go, check out the site, and join us on IRC at #liberatedpixelcup on irc.freenode.net
(click here to chat from your browser)!
