Admittedly I'm not particularly great at drawing cloth and fabric and getting the play of light between the folds and whatnot, any suggestions on how to improve?

Was going for something with an arch in the middle but at this perspective I am finding it difficult to portray that.



Also have no idea what sort of texture I should go with, anyone have any suggestions?

doesn't look right to me



Basically the idea is it would be the trunk with a sort of leafy canopy overlayed on top sort of like the pure land in secret of mana as shown in the pic below



but just doesn't look right, anyone got any critiques and ideas on where I might have gone wrong?


Edit: Been a while since I updated this thread and wasn't sure if I should necro this thread or create a new one, regardless here are my most recent attempts, looking for critiques.

Hi looking for help and critique for these sprite bases





Something about them just doesn't feel right, especially the side view, obviously these are just base sprites and will be used as a base for different characters with different hairstyles and clothing but just want to get the base sprite done and animated so I have something to work with.

Here is a quick rush job to get a small idea of how they might look clothed.

Pixel Art / Tips and tricks for a good water tile?

So yeah recently been trying to make a decent water tile but not having too much luck, was wondering if anyone has any good tips on how to create a good water tile and how to animate it



This is my first attempt but well can't shake the feeling that it looks too thick like a broth and looks closer to water you might find in the sea rather than that of a mountain river or stream (which is what I am currently hoping to create),



This is the base tile used in the pic above and the idea is to have it semi transparent and overlay it on the tiles in the background

also need to a waterfall so any tips on that would be helpful as well

Pixel Art / Tileset woes, my first tileset

Hi just looking for some feedback on the tileset I am currently working on, for some reason something just doesn't feel right and I can't put my finger on it.





currently going with 16x16 3x zoom but not sure whether to change it to 32x32 2x zoom

obviously it is looking a bit plain at the moment without any of the more vibrant elements like flowers and pebbles and things to break up the monotony and probably needs a few more variations and a top transition for the cliffs but something about the fundamentals seems off, wondering what critiques you can give? Thanks.
