Never use gradients, unless absolutely necessary.  The outlines on the text are missing in places, too.

Seems a bit flat to me, like a pice of cardboard with a blue light hitting the sides.  The form is nice, though!

The abdomen seems a little boxy, the body could use some more curves so that it does not have straight outlines.

The NES controller looks a bit strange in the last one, maybe it could benefit from a tiny bit of dithering...
The fireballs? are a bit distracting, however once polished they'll probably look pretty nice.

Seeing as though your character is double-pixel, I think your background should be double-pixel as well.  The dust clouds could also use some work.

As Fidsah said, the fire needs to have more attention drawn to it.  If a building next to me caught on fire, I doubt I'd just be standing there doing nothing. ;)
And if the dog is animated, I think you should add animations to more people/objects.
