Pixel Art / [WIP] Hunter girl
« on: December 08, 2009, 04:04:47 pm »
Hi again everyone.   ;D

I'm kind of stuck on this one.  I think the character is ok. I know the hand on the barrel and arm needs fixing.  I also want to add a hunting knife strapped to her leg.
It's the background that's bothering me.  Maybe because lack of ideas?  Hard to say.
I seem to get to this point in a lot of my peices and don't know how to finish.  I want her to fit in with the background.  I thought about adding more of a forest on the left, but I didn't want to add too many more colors.
I guess I'm looking for general c&c and maybe an idea or two.  Thanks.

Welcome.   :)

I'm sort of a biginner too (pixeling less than a year), but what I see is not enough contrast.  Your colors seem very light and I'm on a dark monitor.  The lollipop seems a bit flat...better shading would help that.  Your animations are cute though.   ;D

Here's an update on the hair and face.  I adjusted a skin tone as well.
I'm thinking more contrast on the clothing shading and eliminating all the black outlines..still keeping it fairly dark?  Kind of like the hair.

Actually I'm getting some ideas for Elks doodle.  I may start another thread.  :)

Why would a harmless cute girl assume an athletic pose like that?

Who said anything about harmless?

But yeah, she's just supposed to be a cute little girl.

Take the original poster's image, lose the ball, and look at it again. It's not a person kicking a ball, it's a girl walking(in midstride) and pointing at something off the canvas.

Good point.  I can see that.

I kind of liked the hand.  It kind of added some more depth, interest or something.  Also I'm not sure about the current hair.  To much bangs...kind of like a pretty boy.  That's just my taste though.  Nice work overall.

The eyes are huge...kind of like an alien...one of those grays.  Also with the hair pulled back like that, you would see more forehead.  How about some ears?  And maybe try to make it look like a girl first before putting the stache on...it might help.

New                                                                                                   Old

@EyeCraft - Thanks for the suggestions.  I tried to implement them as best I could.  The face still needs some work.  Hair too.  This dark crt keeps me from seeing the colors correctly.  Once I get off this one I can clean up the palette a bit more.  I also adjusted a few more things such as the stripe on the shorts, left shoe, hair band, shading on the face and left arm.  Anything else you see?

@Elk - That's a great doodle.  I guess I was going for a bit more cutsie here.  Thanks.

Hey guys,
Her left leg seems off to me and I'm not sure why.  This is kind of a new style for me.

I commented at pixel joint.  This needs nothing.  It's perfect imo.  It reminds me of childhood picture books.  It has a classic feel.
You're gonna win man!

I think what you had in the beginning wasn't that bad.  A few tweaks to the hip area would pull the whole thing together and enable you to see the other parts better.  I know what it's like doing anatomy.  I could never pencil out a whole picture, but working pixel by pixel I can put something together.  I recently did a legs spead nude (too much like porn for this site), it was small...maybe 100x100.  It took me about 3 hours.  She came out cute too.   ;D  Yours looks 3 times that size.  As a beginner myself, something this size would probably take me 6 to 8 hours.

All I'm saying is it takes a lot of tweaking for me as a beginner.  So don't give up.  I think you have something going here.
