2D & 3D / Re: Official Anatomy Thread
« on: July 14, 2010, 06:39:57 am »
I'm going to do my best to join in with this as well. Lately I've been trying to keep up with my anatomy drawings but I keep falling behind, hopefully if I work along I'll be able to keep my focus.

By the way Mathias, what is the anatomy book you own? I've been looking into getting one but I'm not sure which I should get.

Deviant art allows a lot of horrible things to stay up. Too many people make gifs from clips of music videos or TV shows and the weirdest thing is people complement and praise them??

General Discussion / Re: ideal female anatomy/proportions
« on: July 09, 2010, 11:28:06 pm »
You made me curious so I looked up a couple charts, which ones have you been using?
I overlaid the charts over some people I found. The first one is a model, I'm not sure how accurate but she was supposed to have perfect proportions for a model. She seems more like what you are describing as her upper half is shorter than her lower half. She is almost exactly 8 heads tall.

These 2 are just regular girls.

The 2 regular girls seem to fit into older drawings that are classed as ideal. The 3rd drawing is newer and is still classed ideal and is 8 heads where as the others are 7 and a half I believe. I'm not sure who the original artists are for any of the images. Also only the middle image has the same length of upper and lower body.

Here is a sprite I did awhile ago

Sketch 1
Sketch 2

I didnt actually draw the pose I made though just to get an idea of how he would look. I'll probably do a new one soon.

What else could they have used? I can't imagine using circles because how would you fill in the empty spaces, though rectangles would work its essentially long pixels. Maybe hexagons? I thought about this before and I can't see how you could use anything else without having weird problems, at least on low resolutions (good luck drawing a L on a hexagon grid).

It's weird that he hates the square pixels so much but the program he made is pretty awesome and it's funny because the result reminds me a lot of some of your (Helm) and Ptoings pixel art. The way you drew the recent Nietzsche portrait looks pretty similar to this only more refined. I wish he released the program because I'd like to play with it. It would be interesting to see how it interprets some of the pixels I've done.

Those look fantastic Indigo. I'm not one to play facebook games but I'll definitely check it out just to see the work you guys did because it looks absolutely wonderful! Can you give a link to the fan page or anything? I wasn't able to find it.

General Discussion / Re: 3d vs 2d Myth (or is it?)

I took a 3D modeling course in college. There were people in my class who couldn't draw worth beans and could model extremely well. Most of them modeled cars but there were people who modeled characters really well. It's strange.

Yeah I think Polycount is probably your best bet or maybe Game Artisans

General Discussion / Re: Style...why?
« on: May 04, 2010, 06:40:58 am »
I class my style as my curse really... I've had people tell me I have a very diverse style but I can see similarities between all of my works that kind of frustrates me that I cannot break them easily. (Over 15 years and the influence of anime still scars what I do...) For me at least I think my style has evolved just from how knowledgeable I am and how I understand what I'm working on. For me it's hard to break my style because in a way it's the extent of what I know and what I'm comfortable with.
