Pixel Art / Sky Archer: Art & Animation Critique
« on: September 28, 2018, 05:11:20 am »
Hi all! After Kitchen Night, which I previously posted here, I've done some work on a new sprite called Sky Archer. Let me know your thoughts!

I have an issue with the cycling of his rainbow face at the end of the attack animation (not enough frames to make a complete cycle), but otherwise I hope you guys like it.

I've uploaded these with a colored background because the rain was very hard to see against this forum's color scheme with a transparent background.

32: Thank you for taking the time to give me some constructive critique! I think you're spot on. I'll try incorporating those changes you suggested!

Tuna: I'm glad you like its playfulness! I was happy to capture that. Seriously, I appreciate your encouragement!

I hugely appreciate your support, and your encouragement!

Here's a working draft of an attack animation:

So glad you like it! And that's another good idea; currently it's a wooden spatula, but if that's hard to read I'll try reworking it into a metal one for sure.

I've always loved pixel art (essentially grew up on it), but I'm specifically practicing so I can produce art for my own (first) indie game. It's great to hear that you think a character like this is well suited for that!

That's such a huge compliment, MysteryMeat. Thank you!

I loved your idea so much, I went and made a first pass of it. I don't know how I didn't think of that!

Pixel Art / Re: New artist here, first unique portrait

Thank you both for your feedback!

Based on it, I added another row of color beneath the eyes, added some darker pixels along the jawline, removed one pixel from the triangles on each corner of the mouth, tweaked the corners of the lips and teeth, reworked the ear, and added a bit more contour on the nose using shadow. As well, I moved the entire eyes-section (eyes, eyebrows, shadow) one pixel to the right.

Pixel Art / New artist here, first unique portrait

Hi all! I'm new here. This is my first post outside of the stickied rules/introduction thread.

I absolutely love pixel art, but have only just begun to learn how to make my own.

To begin learning, I've been practicing portraits of different faces. I've done several, now, while using other artists' work as a reference. I'd like to show and receive critique on the first portrait I've done without an artistic reference.

Thanks in advance!

Hello! I'm both new here and new to pixel art. That is, new to drawing it; I'm 32 years old and pixel art has long been my favorite form of digital illustration. I grew up playing games done in this style, and it's stuck with me since.

I adore all kinds of art. I'm a writer and a web developer, and when I was a kid I drew like crazy. But one day, I stopped.

Well, I've decided to get back into it, and really develop this skill. And so, I'm excited to join a community--this community--that's focused on this specific art!

I'm using a mouse and an Intuos Draw tablet, and Krita. And as I've just begun, I've only so far drawn several portraits, which I did while using other artists' work as a reference.

But if I may, I'd like to show my latest portrait, and the first I've done without artistic reference:

Thanks for reading! I hope I'm able here both to learn and contribute, and I very much welcome all your advice.
