Pixel Art / Re: water tiles
« on: August 06, 2006, 05:25:54 pm »
Your tiles are amazing! I can't see people can do such great work with tiles. Anytime I try to do tiles they default to looking like tiles from 8-bit castlevania on the NES. :(
Enough about me though, your work is progressing very well!

Pixel Art / Re: New here, cartoony wolf pup

That is a very nice pixeled cartoon wolf. I went to your site to see other pixel works... but didn't see any. Make sure you get this on your site, it would greatly add to it. Do have anymore pixelart?

Did you trace the original photo you are referencing? It doesn't look too bad, just a bit "box" looking. Notice the shadow on the left side has no light on your rendition, the original has some. The eye on the left looks like you took it out. The eyebrow is missing. The cheek on the right is too flat, same with the chin. The nose and the lips are missing so much detail, it really changes the person you are drawing.

Yes, I was especially harsh and I broke the rules about being an ass on my posts above. I apologize to rharpe, and to the userbase. This is mainly because rharpe and me go way back, before and sideways to this forum and I have ethical issues with a lot of stuff he says on the internets. I realize I shouldnt've made this a pixelation issue at all, and I do apologize for this much. I dislike forum recruiting, personally, but there's no rule against that either so I was out of line in that way as well. However I will not apologize for religious statements made, as tolerance goes both ways, not only in respecting the religious choices of others, but also when others appear to insult it.
Apology accepted!

Helm, you have insulted me from the time I started Pixelation back in 2001... why change, right? I respect you as an artist and fellow game designer. But when it comes to religion, morality, and ethics, we are total opposites, and always will be. We've made that clear on one too many occassions. This is something I grew to accept. Rehashing through these discussions will get us no where.

...Now let's move on.

So if you ever feel adventurous enough, I would be honored to have you come by the site/forum as a fellow game designer and artist. Religion, ethics, morality, will not be discussed. Truce?  ;)

Personally, I don't see how having rules will really help a person create games. People know not to act like a tit, swearing in moderation should be perfectly fine, in my eyes. Most of the people I know that actually make games are the ones that don't have such strict boundaries imposed upon themselves. Myself included.

I suppose you might have a different perspective. Sure, I can see this being precautionary, but I wouldn't outright ban swearing. I would, however, warn anyone who crosses the boundaries and starts cussing in excess. I fail to see the how the usage of colloquial language and interjections have any adverse impact on one's ability to create games.

Making games simple require creativity and the smarts (not really even this oftentimes) to accomplish it, and the time to work on it. Nothing else is really necessary.
I can see the majority of you here see nothing wrong with swearing... that is why you are here I suppose, so that you can curse, swear, and do what you like. That is fine... by all means continue to do so. I'm not here to impose any restrictions on what you do here or anywhere else, but...

If you plan on signing up and posting on the 2D Gamers forum be aware of what is expected of you. I will try to make it the most enjoyable and productive forum you will visit on the web, but only with your cooperation. I don't want to be, as Helm put it, a

. I'm not there to impose my beliefs, but to help you out with your 2D game endeavors. What's wrong with that? I'm willing to help those that want to make games.

Sounds to me like his rules were to prevent people saying such as this. He's probably had some bad flaming experiences in the past, and his dedication to his hobby has pushed him to wanting to create a safe place to talk about pixel art with other artists. Personally, I don't see any need to swear when talking about pixels  ::)

First post  :) . Hello all.
You hit the nail right on the head!

The hell---I always thought Guybrush_Threepwood and rharpe were two different people!  Damn name changes... though I changed mine since the boards went down so I guess I shouldn't complain.

Anyway, welcome back, rharpe.
For some reason I couldn't log on in as rharpe anymore so I had to get a new handle. Thanks man!

holy shit. just got hit with natastalgia in more ways than one. I think the first topic i ever read on pixelation was from you <3 (why do i remember that?)
Not sure.  :-\

Oooh, Guybrush...Now I recall you.
I use to hang around quite a bit and work on my own sprites and such, but now I feel I need to help others. And I always wanted to host my own site/forum... :D

The phrasing of the others comes off a little too strict and threatening for my liking. Take your first rule with the threat to boot out those who don't respect the other members. To me, this conflicts with your message of respect, and as you can see here it puts people off. Another example is rule 7, which I think would be better off without the sass so that it says to look at the section topic before posting.
I suppose your right... *edit* Ok, it shouldn't be so threatening now.

Good luck with your board
Thanks! If you ever want to participate, you are more than welcome to. Take care.  ;)

Yeah I'd appreciate it if people behaved in this thread. We might not be rharpe's crazy fundamentalist forum, but we do have a ruleset too. Profanity's not such a big deal (and we can, if so desired, tell god to go fuck himself, especially on such a day as today! SIX SIX SIX) but usually when it serves some other point than to make us look omg cool. I realize I started some of this in this thread with my first post (bad moderator, helm!) but it's just that I found and continue to find rharpe's rules stupid, and since he's basically recruiting from our userbase, I felt it justified to at least let him know his rules are stupid. Rharpe, god and I agree that your rules are stupid.
Hahaha! Helm, you never cease to amaze me by your arrogance...  ;D

your forum rules terrify me and i would really never want to be part of such a strict board. to be brutally honest though, i think you made the rules because you are anal and need a feeling of control and orderly conduct. good luck recruiting and keeping members on such a strict board.

Have you ever made a game before? You must be strict and dedicated to make a game. Spend your time well, and you can do great things. :)

edit: or you have an utmost need to show off how morally appropriate you are compared to us. Swearing isnt always necessary, but if you are really against it, get the fuck off the internet bud, there is much worse stuff out there, i guess you are just too sheltered to know its out there...and please dont come back and reply with bible scripture and try to put me down and say im a loser because honestly i dont care, I just think you are trying to be far too elitist and essentially, you suck balls at it.
There is no need for Bible scripture. I'm sure you have been taught the difference between right and wrong. Sorry you feel this way.

edit: and normally, i am very civil whilst internetting, its just i tend to get out of hand when pure idiocrity diseases forums. prime example...your forum rules.
Sounds like I hit a nerve somewhere?

Take Care Rharpe, if you lighten up your forum rules, ill gladly join <3
Sorry, the rules have been put in place to help direct people to their goals of making 2D games... without them, the forum/site would be pointless.

also, please take all this with a grain of salt im only having fun and bashing your forum rules. ill also probably get banned for this.
Not a problem, you have a right to your opinion. :)

Rharpe, it's always good to see members from the past resurface. I'm not so sure you remember me though, since I came around Pixelation late in the game and wasn't exactly a person worthy of rememberance then.
Sorry, it has been a while. There are a lot of people I get mixed up because of changes in there handle, etc. I was rharpe at first then resigned up as Guybrush_Threepwood later on. I never joined Dices board because I was slowly getting busy with life and non internet related things. Now I'm hosting my own site and forum. If you are into game design, stop by, if not, stop by anyways... it's always nice to see new submissions to the forum. :P

My apologies for not remembering you.

Rule #2: Men be gentlemen... Women be ladies. No dirty talk, swearing, cursing, using the Lord's name in vain, etc.

*censor* rharpe, that's some strict parenting right there.
Just want to keep everything civil. There really is no reason for people to get get out of hand if they're working hard creating their games anyway. It's also a show of respect... something people forget about when they are on the internet.
