Pixel Art / Re: Sprites Walk cycle WIP

Kind of looks like he's shrugging his shoulders as he steps.  The head is bobbing at the correct time, but when he puts his foot down, he should be a little shorter, not taller.  In those frames, the shoulders and armpits should be a pixel lower, not a pixel higher.

-> (lengthened legs)

(if you're coming to this thread for the first time, you'll see the same image on both posts -- I accidentally overwrote the old one)

Okay, working on this a little bit at a time.  First, I've addressed the head bob issue, not by removing it, but by tweaking the arms, shoulders, and chest to give her whole body more of a sense of up and down movement.  I've also tried to address the leg length issue on the right walk.  Hopefully it looks a little better now.

I see what you mean by the difference between a casual and non-casual walk.  I'll try and rectify that.

Walking references are really hard to find.  I've been looking all over the place.  Any suggestions?

Pixel Art / Female anime sprite base animation -- C&C requested

Greets!

I've been working on this base sprite for a while:

(edit: very rough 8-frame version)

If possible, I'd like to get some comments, both on the sprite and on the walk.  I feel like the right-facing walk in particular isn't quite right yet, but I'm not quite sure what I need to adjust.  Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Bart

You kind of have some pillow shading going on with the left leg (our left -- his right).  Given where your light source is coming from, it looks like the left side of the left leg is too dark.

General Discussion / OpenGameArt.org pixel art contest!

Greets!

This is Bart, the proprietor of OpenGameArt.org, and I wanted to let everyone know that we're currently running a contest to create hair, eyes, accessories, and other modifications to our base sprites.

There is a first place cash prize of $100, and a second place prize of $50.  We are also accepting donations of further prizes (cash, services, or other items) if people are interested in helping in that way.

The contest runs until August 1st, so stop by, read the rules, and submit an entry (or several entries, if you're so inclined)!

Thanks!

Bart

Greets!

For anyone reading this resume, I've worked with Miguel, and he's very talented, responsive, and easy to work with.  I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a great pixel artist.

I just created a new theme for the site, and I'd appreciate any comments or critiques anyone could provide.

It so happens that I do know of Lost Garden, because someone pointed it out to me the other day.  I've already archived some of their content (which is conveniently licensed under CC-BY 3.0) and I'm going to drop Danc a line today the near future and see what he thinks of my site. :)

Should anyone happen to know of any other sites that distribute content under a similar license, I'd love to know about the,

Bart

Okay, I put together a link image.  You can find it on this page here:
