Hello there!
I'm back, and I think I have a slight problem this time. I was looking for a new style to attempt so I went sprite hunting. I saw some that looked similar to mine and decided to check them out. After finding a kung fu edit, I tried to shade it. It looked okay to me so I thought I'd apply it to my sprite. I also tried to make my sprite stand similiar to the other one but it came off lookng like an edit. So I scrapped that and redid the legs. Worried, I check the outlines. There are so many area alike that I may have subconsciously edited the sprite. In the below picture, I have some text pointing out my conerns. I also include some of what I've been working on. There are various problems to the cyborg that I have yet to address. And the red submarine is my games level two boss. Which, I just realised, has some metal shading problems on the fin. I'm going to be working piece by piece on that one, and not trying to work on it as a whole. On the first boss, I merely increased the contrast value a bit more. The second image is a mockup of a "halloween" game I'm considering. That is still wip. I posted that somewhere else and am trying to see if you guys say the same things. I also started a new thread because the other one was cluttered and had dropped too low.

Hello!

It seems I've been keeping something from you. Heh heh. Anyways, I felt a little uncomftable putting things up here becuase it feels like I get abused, and like it. Okay, sorry, that's enough. I've been working on a little game (ha ha, little) now for some months and am pleased with the way it's turning out. The engine is good. The first song is okay. The gui is okay. And I'm okay with the graphics. But they're bothering me now for some reason. Mainly because I want to try and animate a running for the characters and am completely stumped as to how and make it look right. I'll probably end up giving them a scissors like look without any bending to make it easier. Anyway. The first sheet contains all the little sprites that are going to be in the game. Plus some random stuff that I've done lately. You may recognize the below comic that I've pixeled. I would like a little crit on that as well. I don't know what I'm worried about. Which is a good enough reason to ask for crit. Here's the pics:

Well, I decided to take a break from pixel art for a while and not do anything. Then I worked on a small MMORPG parody comic I've been working on in the background. Then I went to the community programming site I use and see that they had started a Mini game competition. (One of the games was a cat killer game. So that had something to do with this as well.) Since I did not have enough time in my work schedule to make one, and learned about it a few days late. I decided to do a mockup. (Technically, my new avatar came first really.)

Since one of my comic characters is a cat. I wondered what kind of game certain cat activities would make. Since they like to catch small, edible critters, I based the game play on that premise. I turned it into a platform style game and came up with this little bit here.



I tried to keep it a little cute and smallish. The player would then wander about the levels catching fish, mice, birds, and fighting off other cats in a limited amount of time. The player would have 9 lives, take damage when in water, and increase health every time they caught something. (They would also always land on their feet.)

I also tried a walk animation. The head and tail are easy enough to fix. What I do not like is how the legs look. They seem too jerky and look like they could use some more frames. But I'm not sure what to do there.



I tried to pick a light source on this one. I think the tiles are okay though. I'd also like a little help on the jumping fish. Did I do any better here? Or do the same crits still apply?

You may ignore the drivel and go right to the notice if you'd like.
START Drivel:
Never, ever, ever show your little sibling your sprite art. Why?:

"I don't know why I bother, all your stuff looks the same." "What is he, some robot ninja thing?" "Well, he still has stick legs, the arm is too long, and he doesn't have any 3dish shading."

What ticks me off most, is the 3 other people on the net who saw it said it looked good. They let me think that it was okay, now I think it still sucks. I just wanted to take the erase tool and go through all the work on my file. And remove a good blob of it. Then start from scratch or do something else for a while. Anyway, this is not the reason why I posted.

Notice: So, aside from the above, I think that the sprite is mostly finished. But I'm going to do some variations of friendly NPC troopers and some enemy troopers to practice on. Just so I don't screw up the main sprite any more. Hopefully I'll have the some done by this weekend. (Yes, I know this is not a blog. Just wanted to give you guys a head's up of what's coming up.)

I think what I want help on, is mostly style, shading, and something else. I just can't put my finger on it at the moment. Scroll down for drivel.

I've been struggling with the style for a while now and i just don't know what to go with. I know I should be working on something else, but I had a couple days off this week so I had to do some pixel work. I just don't know what style I should use here.

The smaller one is one I came up with. The larger one is an adaptation to a newer style I found on from a game. Maybe I'm trying to find a happy medium between the two.

Crits, comments, help please.
