Pixel Art / [WIP] Battle Baddie Portraits - Fire Bat
« on: January 19, 2011, 04:23:00 pm »
Hello all.  I'm working on some static baddie portraits for our Dragon Quest/Warrior kind of game. They must fit in a 136x96 frame.  I'm shooting for an 8 color palette for each one.

Here's a Fire Bat I'm working on.  C+C are needed and welcome.  I'm struggling with the lower wing and there are probably other issues there too.  Any insights?

Thanks,
Sam

Pixel Art Feature Chest / GR#010 - Ogre - Sprite Process
« on: September 01, 2009, 08:20:12 am »
I'm starting a new baddie.. an ogre.  This is another stretch for me.

How's the anatomy?  He's supposed to be fat but muscular.  His pose is a hunched, lumbering walk.. kind of like he's going to slowly steamroller you down.

C+C welcome as always.

EDIT: btw, this is an initial sketch and will be shrunk down and reworked for 128x96 like my other baddies.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Feet, Ankles and Shins.. oh my.
« on: August 31, 2009, 08:39:08 am »
Ok, my next baddie for my game is kind of zany.  It's a giant, but you only get to see his feet.  So.. here they are.  Eventually there will be sandals too.

I've done more work on the foot on our left.  How am I doing so far?  C+C is appreciated.

I'm particularly concerned with shape and volume.  Something seems a little wonky, but I can't put my finger on it.

This is an anatomical stretch for me since I've never drawn feet this large before.

Reference is my fat ugly feet. :D

Pixel Art / Dragon Baddie
« on: August 29, 2009, 12:55:50 am »
Here's a dragon baddie for our game.  Probably won't have anytime to edit this one, since I've already poured 10hrs into it, but any comments and critiques are still welcome.  I really do appreciate them and they have been helping me grow as a pixeler, I believe.

Pixel Art / [WIP] Giant Spider

Here's my next baddie, a giant spider.  Just a sketch at first.  Does it read well?  Any recommendations on pose?  C+C welcome  Thanks!

Pixel Art / [WIP] Skeleton Warrior
« on: August 17, 2009, 08:57:58 pm »
This piece is one of the baddies from the game.  Battles are done in a Dragon Warrior style with one baddie per battle.

So.. I'm starting with a sketch here.. a sword in his right hand, a buckler on the left arm.

I guess, first off, how does the pose look?  I'm trying my hand at some fore-shortening.  I'd like it to feel planted yet active like he's running at you.

Pixel Art / AA Question
« on: August 10, 2009, 02:22:31 am »
I always had trouble with AA-ing a gentle curve--especially the part near 45 degrees.

Do any of the pros have time to edit this and show me how you do it?   Every time I try the line seems either flat or fatter than it should be, or I end up using way too many colors...

Thanks!

Pixel Art / [WIP] an Old King
« on: August 08, 2009, 04:55:50 am »
Hello, this is an old king for a simple 16x16 style rpg project.  He'll be used in the intro sequence.

C+C please about the form and lighting and such.  I rather suck at larger pieces so this is a stretch for me and I'm eager to learn.  He's wearing a breastplate under one of those capes with the fuzzy edges.  He will eventually be holding a staff in his hand.  Thanks for any help in advance!

EDIT: Some more updates.. I'm almost embarrassed to leave the first one there, but I will.  I was reading through some posts and saw EvilEye's comment about mirroring your art to get another perspective.  Great idea!  Still looking for comments and critiques.  I'll be working more on it.

EDIT: I guess that's what I get for posting at 5am board time. :)   Cleaned things up a bit and played around.  Still looking for c+c.

Sam

Pixel Art / [WIP] Jester Maximus
« on: September 01, 2008, 01:30:03 am »
Ok, here's another one.

This one uses the NES palette (which I would like to stick with), though I'm not limiting myself to 4 color sprites

c+c welcome.
