Pixel Art Feature Chest / Re: PixelArt tutorial illustration and mini dump

I had fun playing with this one. Sought a balance between abstract and representational while keeping the color count low and emphasizing the shapes.

In true villain fashion, Purple took the top bunk.

Whoa, I made the tree with the blue and green leaves three years ago. Funny to see it turn up here!

Funny you picked that painting. Gerome used photographs extensively in his work. Neo-Grec isn't exactly ground-breaking artistically, either.

I think the abstract item/monster tiles look cool here, but could become monotonous in gameplay.

It reminds me of the aliens from the Simpsons.

Very charming! You manage to squeeze a lot of personality into very simple designs.

Nitpick: when the circle guy does his "cough" it would help if his eyes followed the shaped of the gray area and bulged accordingly. The timing is good, it just reads a little flat otherwise.

Looks like someone broke into the medicine cabinet.

I love the fluid swooshy curves and the hue blending. There might be a way to keep the chaos, yet guide the viewer's eyes through the piece more. The face seems like the focal point, since it has the most detail, but maybe there's a way to reinforce that with color. What if her "hair" was red and the more abstract designs around the border were white?

Half of gamers might be female, but I don't think that number holds if you factor out casual gamers. A pixel game with retro mechanics might appeal more to male players, since the classic systems and arcades were predominantly played by males. A big part of marketing is segmenting and targeting, not always trying to appeal to the general audience. /2¢

You can also load the spritesheet into Promotion as an animation and it will read the frames.
