General Discussion / Re: Pixel question (tablet).
« on: July 30, 2005, 07:54:47 pm »
I'd love a tablet... for GC art. Pixels, mouse. I mean, I do my basic shapes as a big blob, then outline it carefully and change single pixels until the silhouette looks JUST right. Then I color it. That wouldn't be much easier to do with a tablet. Actually, I'd probably just find it cumbersome.

Pixel Art / Re: The Boar

Mm, that looks tasty...
... oh god, I'm SO rusty.. I can't think of anything to make it better..! Gah! I've lost my critiquing ability! Oh god... let me think...

Yeah, first of all, I like the general setup of the thing, with the dark foreground framing the white and the main character in the middle of it. I like the pose and the super-contrasty deal with the background. I have to suggest to other viewers, though; Copy the image and paste it on an eternal sea of black. It makes much more justice to it than this... milky grey deal.. bleh.

Oh, now I know! You've done good with dramatic highlights on the obscure foreground thingies, but the boar itself has no highlights at all. Might try giving it some to bring out the volume of it, because as is it now, I find it makes the whole image look somewhat flat. You could even try using the colors you shaded the clothes with to highlight his fur. It might work quite well.

General Discussion / Re: Pixelation Complaints

Yeah, spamming at Pixelation wasn't bad at all, at least I don't found it bad. There was a bit problem going on with actual critique in the later ... stages, but I think that was just because of that enormous influx of newbies that appeared from nowhere. I know I was active about telling people off and trying to prevent unfitting comments, and from what I saw the other mods (and many regular members) did a good job with it as well.

Of course critique is very much encouraged, as that's what Pixelation was about, but I don't see a need for it to be constantly enforced.

Also, that theory that giving someone useful comments would encourage them to comment on your next piece... that really does work in a lot of cases.

Damn you, Helm. Stealing my otherwise-cheaply earned spotlight... with a crappy background-less low-color picture...

Still, this is actually my first pixelpiece since Pixelation went down. So you might say I'm a tad rusty. Just a tad. Also, I haven't slept in.. say... 20 hours... I'm sure that's got something to do with it as well... Anyway. This NEEDS a dark background, so it's a bit bigger than it'd have to be. Thus, I link it.

And if you doubt my following the silhouette because of the blackness; beta-ish proof!

[edit!] Noticed something else to complain about regarding the board itself. I want a longer summary-thing while typing a new post! [/edit]

You know... I've never really seen anyone quote solely themselves, and think it's awesome...
Well done.

What?! More neutral background?? Noo! Darnit... now I have to change that nice habit I had about instantly changing the white to Pixelation-blue in a pic as soon as I got to the coloring stage... I still do it, even if Pixelation's still not around. I just think it's much easier to appreciate all shades and colors against a relatively dark background.

[edit] Hold on.. hoold on.. this HAS to be a modern enough forum thingy that it supports user-selectable themes.. if not, it sucks. If it does, then there's our solution! One new theme with new, more "neutral" colors and one old-school theme for people like me. [/edit]

Aww, damn you! Now I feel all flattered and stuff, too...

Thank Morganne, she's the one who's been keeping me (somewhat) updated.

I know how that feels, about the trees. We cut down ONE at our old home before we moved.. one, at the edge of a freaking forest, to get it out of the way for .. TV channel things and stuff. It made a difference. And 13 is a lot more than one...

On a completely unrelated note, I got Beatmania IIDX 9th Style last week! Wooo! My right hand ached a lot that day...
