Pixel Art / Re: First try at a walking animation

Definitely the new animation is better. Perhaps think about splitting it into parts then overlapping the layers later to form the final animation. That would also make it easier to modify the costume in the game if you want to, and it's better to do that now

Pixel Art / Re: Desert Tile

Didn't the desert sand tile used to be different? I think I remember it being different (a much older version). Anyway, I prefer the older sand tiles, grass tiles, and dirt tiles to the newest version. The newest version has better water however

It's interesting and certainly a beautiful color use. However I'm not really seeing it in your example. I chose big leaves because I feel they are attractive; I am looking for Secret of Mana art style, not the same Secret of Mana tree types if you know what I mean. It's gorgeous and I'd like to see your final product if you're ever interested. Still, I am sticking with big leaves for this tree.

Okay, so I revamped it a bit and here's what I've come up with:

I changed the colors a little to something I felt a little more asthetically pleasing. I decided to add some branches near the leaves to make it look more unified. I continued the trunk upward as well to make it look like a whole tree. Now I need help with shading it a lot.

I think when this is done you should replace the transparency with black and convert the pallette to 16 colors. Just to make the whole piece set-in-stone unbelievable

This is a really beautiful piece. It'd be interesting to turn these collabs into some interesting video games. For instance, you travel into the various regions and caves in the level and then the screen fades into a closeup of the area where you experience the battles and things and really play the area. Either than or make the board a minipuzzle/labrynth.

Pixel Art / Tree needs better shading to come to life

So I've been working on this tree and am using it in my game. I am pretty satisfied with it, but I do not plan to move my game forward until the art is going in a consistent, satisfactory direction.

I'd like to make this tree pop. Any suggestions? I am a huge fan of the Secret of Mana series and its tree graphics, and I will show you some of their trees as examples :)

Here are some tree examples:

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Cowboy

wow that's beautiful I really like Helm's edit, you should go with that. Part of what your character does need is a stronger face (see Helm's cowboy). Without a face I don't think your game will be as successful considering it's a mundane cowboy (cute, still) and thus extracting the human element does not appeal to anyone's inner child.

General Discussion / Re: Choosing colors and pallettes

How does Lab look smoother? You can get any colour onto the monitor with HSV or RGB you can get with Lab, it's not like Lab magically enables the screen to display different colours.
It's about color selection, not about color availability.

Personally I think Konspiracy has the most beautiful color selection of anyone's work in this thread. Harmonically I think it makes sense to use some sort of order to your color selection considering the brain is a giant mathematician whether anyone realizes it or not. I think the brain appreciates the effort put into harmonizing color. Still, to each his own.

I agree, the new styles have strayed from the original vision. It's become a different game now. And I thought the puppy was a squirrel ;)
Perhaps you could use the original puppy for the puppy and the squirrel thing for a squirrel in the game.
