Pixel Art / Re: [WIP] Robot

it does look proportionately weird. I did a junky retouch on it without really getting too in depth with fixing its texture and coloring. I modified some parts to give you a better understanding on how to give it some form and character

I wanted to make the right arm angled more instead of looking weird and flat. I want to make the robot look like he is slightly turned, as you were depicting, as well, so I modified some of the lighting and shapes like on the breast plate, arm, and shoulder of the right side.

The legs were truly bizarre, looking like scrawing bird legs, which is ordinarily an unattractive machine design, so I gave it some better weight and volume in the torso and legs.

For the right side of the body, I noticed you didn't seem to give any shine to the left breast plate (well, barely), when in reality metal catches every lightwave and you would definitely see it. Moreover, the head does not cast a black river on things realistically, especially since the breast plate is curved. So, I shaded the left breast plate (again, this is a rough edit) as a curved piece of metal in that placement/lighting would reflect, then the head casts a slight darkening rather than a pure dark shadow river.

The head was slightly too direct looking so I made it look angled, again, as well with the rest of the  body. In the eye I noticed that you shaded the right side of it, since the lightsource is on the right, depicting the eye going in a little. However, I felt that since it was against the black, which is VERY dark, it actually ended up looking like a highlight coming from the left side. So, I turned it around so that it looks like that light on the right slightly illuminated the inside of the beveled eye. No it may not be entirely realistic  but it's something that needs addressed.

I don't like the black shading, either. Especially the dithering with it.

I think you can push the dithering a little further by adding some more in-between/blending colors

well it's the same concept with the face. The face should be lit up as well from the flames, which Ben forgot to draw out.
Perhaps you could even save yourself some trouble and get a striking effect by skipping detail on the face and making it extremely light-washed out by the flame. Give it some dark eyes maybe

I'll take it, but it looks like it's done?

Looks nice. Don't understand what a lot of them are
Your "blocks" are beveled weird to me. If you look at the highlight edge, at the very bottom you have the shade come up a pixel or two. Then on the shadow side at the right a highlight goes down a pixel or two. That is pretty weird (I am referring to the gray blocks).

Also, refer to Mario Bros blocks. They come to a sort of peak in the center:

It was Nazi as a metaphor, not as an insult. Really, lighten up your heart will beat easier

I suppose, if you want to be a Nazi about everything. There are alternative lightsources however in this great and vast world. Still I wouldn't worry about it

I would suggest adding a background. This is an example here, but it needs more detail. However it illustrates the point.

Basically it just illustrates a moon sky and some black stalactite type things in the background. You could add some moonlight hightlights and some purple shade "highlights" on things like the edges of the mushrooms and leaves and things.

Well I like the original sand tiles with the diagnol waving sand curves. It's far more appropriate; the newest versions are very flat and dull. Noisy too

The old dirt tiles (on the "old version" of your sample in the original post) were better because they stand out more as looking more cracked and textured, and yet fit the style.

The old grass too had good grass texture

The new stuff is more monotonous and flat in my opinion
