Pixel Art / [wip]Simple Player Animation
« on: May 21, 2010, 10:16:14 pm »
Hey there. I'm way more of a programmer than an artist, but I thought I'd try to make an animation for a game I am (possibly) working on. I'm not too bad when it comes to static images (or at least sprites that require minimal animation) but I'm having a bit of trouble with the following animation:

It looks ok in motion, but I can't really say it's all that great, so I'm looking for some constructive criticism or suggestions on how to improve this. Feel free to slap me with a fish and tell me everything I'm doing wrong  ;D
I also know that these guys are extremely saturated, but it works with the background colour in the rest of the game.

Cheers,
Noel

EDIT: Animation in action:

Thank you. :)

I tried to do what you said, and I think it looks better now. I just changed the colours a bit, and moved them around a little bit on the head. The outline and basic shading is still the same, though.

His head looks a lot more round in my opinion, but his body still seems a bit flat...

Constructive Criticism appreciated - It helps me learn :)

I just made this a few minutes ago, and thought I would post it to get some advice on how I can improve...

So, heres my little Human on another planet. It was just going to be a Human, but I wanted to add more, so I made it look like he was on a different planet than Earth (or a very weird part of Earth).

Constructive Criticism appreciated :)

Drawings I did a while back: (Some Portraits)

I'm not all that good, but I am improving (I think)...

I like it a lot, except for the hud. It seems way to saturated, and does not seem to fit the style of the rest of the game all that much.

Otherwise, the rest of the game looks pretty cool... (Particularly the player and monsters)

Thank you! :)

I chose to dither because I thought it would look better that way. It looked a little to plain without the dither, I wanted him to look a bit rough, not completely shiny. Not sure if it worked, but, whatever :P

Thanks, Zero.

I updated my original robot... a lot.

Basically, I chose 6 original colours, and used them for the robot. I remade everything from the head down, and redid the head except for the eye positions, and the size/shape of the head itself.

Here it is: (Old left side, new right side)

I have not added arms yet.

EDIT
Updated the robot to have arms.

Suggestions and Constructive Criticism appreciated. :)

I didn't see the hurt animation when I posted last.

I like them, but I agree that the shark needs a little more of... something.

As for the Squid, it could just be black, no white bones or anything? I don't know if that would look very good, though.

Looks pretty good, I personally think the border is fine.

The turtles head and neck look a little odd though. It looks almost as if the turtles head is coming out of the top of the shell, where with most turtles (I think..) their necks seem to come out beneath the shells top: Refrence

The shark may look a bit better if his/her mouth was closed. Just a personal opinion :P

Otherwise, I think they are pretty good  ;D
