perspective of the house is somewhat wrong.

I agree, the rooftop especially shouldn't be horizontal, but there may be other objects that are drawn the wrong way, I think you need to trace your vanishing lines and horizon line on top of this drawing to have a clear view on what's wrong.

This is the sort of grid you need to undertand the direction of your lines: http://0.tqn.com/d/drawsketch/1/0/8/O/perpsective8example3.jpg

would like to know your honest feedback on the color scheme if possible.

I'm a bit concerned about this vibrant and solid yellow everywhere, especially if it's a slow paced game, right now I don't have any games in mind where such vibrancy is displayed successfully so I feel like it could be too much aggressive on the eye and demotivating for the player.

What's the genre of this game ?

In addition to what Mathias has already said, I think you 3D mockup uses some dark shades that may be difficult to reproduce with pixels, without introducing several buffer shade to give the darker areas the smoothness your 3D ref has..

I agree on this, the narrow space makes it risky to pixel a faked gradient.

Just wanted to try some gold colors, I also felt the need to AA some of your curves (while resisting to not introduce any 50% dither ;))

@crow:
By different you mean different when using the eyedropper, right ? (because if not, if your eyes see them as clearly different colors then we have a color calibration issue and I'd like to know if the issue is on my side or on your side ;))

@ptoing:
So, one possible usage would be to spare colors for low palettes, using a grey as a green when surrounded by reds, makes sense, got it.

General Discussion / Color illusions, funny, yes but... What's next ?
« on: July 20, 2013, 04:02:52 pm »
It's not the first time I encounter these color illusions, and to my knowledge I'm not subject to color vision deficiency (and I hope my monitor isn't either). But what's different this time is that I'm wondering what to do with these illusions, can they be used in pixel art, maybe they could serve a purpose (other than being an illusion to avoid), well, that's it, I'm just wondering...

Oh, example, of course:

I also do think that there is not enough foreground/background contrast, I'm throwing in a bit of Castlevania to illustrate:

Good job with the anti-flatness measures ,)
I see your new tileset as a sideview one now, where your first one kinda look topview.

All right, glad it helps a bit, get those rocks done now, draw them until you can feel their weight in your hand ,)
