Pixel Art / Re: Post-Apocalyptic Zombie Horror Madness

He still looks like he's about the hit that zombie, rather than just hit it. Still I love this and that car reminds me of my old Clio.

I wouldn't put anything else in this if I was you either.

I definetly agree with Xion Night on the pose, it's way too generic.

I'm not sure if you'll agree with these edits (had a lot to drink soory) but I went and did a little edit giving him an outline and messed with the eyes to see if I could make him look more like Jerry. The lack of outline on the character was the first thing that struck me as throwing this off.

Just a question, which style are you going for with this? Are you aiming for the old 50's one (With IMO were the best) or the more recent (And crap) variations?

Other than the shading, which I'll leave for someone else to explain the biggest problem with these is that they're bland as hell. Try find some screenshots of top down shoot 'em ups and study them. They'll help you out a lot.

General Discussion / Re: Tracing?
« on: May 28, 2006, 06:09:16 pm »
I thought it was normal to draw it on paper first and trace it in photoshop? Especially for larger pieces.

I usually find it's the difference between spending an hour on something or spending 3 hours trying to get one stupid little detail correct, which would have been easier to do if I'd drawn the sprite out on paper first.

Anyway, am I the only one or does anyone else when pixelling sprites out from scratch, often make really silly mistakes and not actually notice until someone mentions that you missed an elbow or something?

Well firstly I'd Keep his feet in the same spot, unless he shuffles his feet like that.

Best advice would be to study some sprites from other games, fighting games and platformers and see how they did the idle animations.

Pixel Art / Re: Walk Animation (WIP)

The amount of the frames isn't the major problem with this, it's the actual frames used that are the problem.

You have a normal stance sprite with his feet sideways and then a sprite which has one leg forward and one leg backward.

This shows the four main points of a walk cycle and also has some decent stuff on it too.

This place also has 2 tutorials on it that are fairly decent too.

Hope that helps.

Dunno who can help you with particulars of light, but I just felt the need to point out pure white light is something that doesn't exist in nature (except I guess, lightning bolts?), it would take a fluorescent lightbulb or something, you know, clynical bathroom light whatever to get that. It's very harsh and unflattering light.

this remains a good guide. light is complicated

Actually that's a very good guide, thanks for posting it.

Personally I don't see the point in having a man hanging there it really doesn't add anything to your site in my opinion.

Some extra eyecandy on the site will improve it but I can't say I'm a fan of the hanging man. Unless you're into all that weird shit.
