Pixel Art / Hobo Heaven

Before submitting to this week contest, I'd like to see if there's anything (C+C) you'd like to point out on this work

Keep in mind that it's about 2 days I'm on this and I am a bit tired, but if it's possible I'd like to improve it without too much hassle.

Pixel Art / [WIP] The Angry Bird
« on: May 13, 2009, 04:48:41 pm »
Hello all, at the end I opened this thread because I don't find a way to finish a piece I've started a few week ago.
It's based on a draw I've done lot of time ago and found it perfect for pixelling, so right now I've created the whole scene, but my main problem is again on some depth errors and small quirks I wish to eliminate
consider the piece is still unfinished, but before going on I wanted to correct:
legs of the bird, foreground objects shading, lighting contrast and background overall composition

now the piece:

any C+C is very welcome :)

Pixel Art / employee of the month
« on: March 10, 2009, 03:57:58 pm »
lo all!
finally I found some time again to do some funny pixxeling :P

The employee of the month is an old sketch I made but never reached a final stage. Now I'm working on it and right now I'm quite satisfied of the actual result, but felt a bit undecided on the background (great gap I have to fill in my personal experience)

anyway, this is the piece

it's representing a mustached grasshopper after being elected as employee of the month.. I mean: if I can prove that insects are better than humans this would be the result :)

there're are a few things I already have in mind to touch: hand's color and add a pocket to the shirt with some pens in it (a must imo).
but before that, get the right feeling for the background (light casting and the rest)
any c&c?

Hi all,
After listening to "She came through the bathroom window" I did this simple sketch

I don't know if the resolution I chose is right, even if I know that depends on how much detail I want to show.
Secondly there's another problem: I thought that using vivid colors is good for this image, at least for the characters, and leaving a greysh background will knock them out.

The main problem that made me stop in pixeling it was that I see good way to blend the colors all together:

so I tried to move to monochrome but still I can't go anywhere even in this direction

I'm a little bit frustrated, but still I can't find the right approach to color it right.
First of all: should I work on full colors areas and then shape the characters, or should I start from one and then move on?
This is my big problem with it. I know there's no correct way, but at least there should be a way to approach these complex (imho) images.

any help will be greatly appreciated  :D

Pixel Art / [WIP] Angkor Wat Temple in Cambodia
« on: June 27, 2008, 11:30:20 am »
This is what I made for the weekly compo on PJ.
Right now I'm stuck in color tones and if there're rifinitures I can do to improve it (i.e. sky?)
fyi: palette is limited to 16 colors.
before

after (joined two colors in one, hence 15 colors atm)

any C&C?
