Unpaid Work / Re: Dev Seeking Talented Members
« on: September 20, 2018, 03:13:50 pm »
@MysteryMeat  Not paid unfortunately, but looking for someone to join the team.  Revshare of course.

@eishiya  Art wise, environments would be huge but as its a very small team, really whatever needs to get done.  The game is laid out in broad strokes but there are tons of details to fill in and I'd like all members of the team to participate in the creative process moving forward.

Unpaid Work / Dev Seeking Talented Members
« on: September 20, 2018, 12:27:18 am »
Seeking:
Any talented and experienced individuals who are interested in collaborating on a game in progress. I'm most interested in finding someone to brainstorm ideas with who can also bring quality art to the table as well. The main skills I am looking for are creative thinking, attention to detail, and the ability to collaborate without an ego. I plan on finishing the project by myself but I'd gladly speed things up with the right small team.

Personal Summary:
I am an artist, programmer, and musician currently employed as a Full Stack Web Developer who is interested in having a project to focus on over the winter. I also have my bachelors degree in Computer Animation and I've been programming in GameMaker on and off for about 4 years. I have additional experience in web marketing as well. I started on this project a long time ago but I had to make a tough decision between pursuing finishing this game or finding a stable career. I went with the latter with the intention of coming back to gamedev once my life was in a better position, and here I am!

Game Premise:
Metroidvania in a magical setting. Travel through the different elemental realms, upgrade abilities that allow you to explore further.

What is already done:
- Just about every character animation
- Several enemies
- Several tilesets
- A working demo
- A bit of concept art
- A couple funky tracks

Please send me an email at jschweihs@gmail.com, skype me at SchweeDubulus, or shoot me a message here in the forums if you're interested. Only considering devs that are 18+ and located in North America for practical reasons.

Looks wicked!  Only thing I see that is iffy is the variation of colors.  Your gold material is consistent throughout, but every other material seems to only be used once.  I count 6 of them.  Try reducing that count to 3-4, reusing say the 'granite' material where the blue is on the gun.

Pixel Art / Re: Attack Animation - Help & Critique

You could benefit from one more frame post swing, to emphasize the ease out.  And, for what its worth,  you could put some more creativity into the 'drag' frame.  I don't know if it's even possible to find a pixel art attack animation that doesn't use a drag.  It's grown boring.  It's not exactly a fair critique, I use it myself in every animation I've done so far, but it is definitely becoming that makes me cringe as of late.  It does definitely look solid though overall.

I agree with the previous poster about not enough contrast.  I have yet to see a post where I think to myself "woah, too much contrast!"

Best advice I can give, and maybe this is just me, but think of it in its parts.  You'll have the front, with the top.  The '3/4 top down' perspective is ultimately a combination of these two angles, plus overlap considered, such as the head overlapping the shoulder area.  If you don't find any specific tutorials on google, just look at other sprites and pick up their techniques!

Since you added the darker blue, I am not seeing any particular improvements, just variations.  I think you got this one covered homie!

Looks cool! And I like the vine!  I am not sure what the white things are supposed to be, I assume some teeth or something?  You might to solidify that area.  Keep it up!

The knees still look a bit off,  there is a frame where his knees bend but the hips don't move, which makes it look like the legs are stretching out.  The other edits are looking good!

Looks good, only thing that feels 'off' to me is something about your brightest tiles in the background.  Something between the red/purple that isn't reading correctly.  I suggest doing a quick test with different hues and brightness to help distinguish each color more.
