Pixel Art / Re: How can i improve this picture ?

Well, I definitely think if you want to improve that sprite you should look up some reference on soldiers.  Adding some more military parts to that sprite could help add to it.

Also, the reason I mentioned drawing is that understanding the fundamentals of art/illustration can really help you develop some solid looking pixel art.   And obviously looking up tutorials will help, but knowing the art fundamentals can transfer over.

Hey Michael4life,

What kind of game are you making?  Are you looking for something similar to Contra?  That's definitely the vibe I'm getting from seeing your sprite.

As for your sprite, I like that you went with the complimentary red & green color scheme with the bandanna and cargo pants.  But, I think overall your sprite could use some polish.  Have you tried any traditional drawing/anatomy studies?  Or looked at reference from other games?

I think having a general idea of how you want your game to look can help make the steps to get your sprites where you want them.  Don't be afraid of reference and sketching stuff out before hoping into pixels!  :)

Pixel Art / Improve as a Pixel Artist [C&C Appreciated!]
« on: April 20, 2017, 05:57:03 pm »
Hi Pixelation,

I'm Joe! I'm a game artist that dabbles in 2D and 3D.  I'm pretty new to the forums, but this seems like a great community of artists!
And as for everyone else here, I have grown to really love pixel art.
As I've been doing pixel art I've come to learn that it can get really extensive.  Such as limited color pallets, pixel sizes, tiling sprites, restricted animations, etc. Most of the pixel art I’ve done is more just graphic related, compared to creating traditional pixel art.

So essentially I’d like to be creating better pixel art, using proper workflows and overall just better art.  So if there’s any workflows or tips that you found helpful in creating pixel art, I'd definitely appreciate a share!  Also, here’s a collection of my pixel art to see where I’m at for some C/C:

Thanks and looking forward to posting more on the forums!   :)

New to forums! First art post actually, but I've been trying to work more traditional art in with my other stuff.
