Pixel Art / Re: Samus Pixel art[WIP(?)]
« on: October 06, 2017, 10:29:39 am »

I tried to edit because i really like the art, i'm noob in pixel art but maybe my edit help u.
Thank you very much!you may not consider yourself an expert in pixel art(I don't know if you are)but sure you found the exact problem that I couldn't see:the banding on her shoulder(that thing is called banding right?).The shades were all the same size,so I guess that made it feel wrong.
Thank you again, you really helped me

I tried to follow your edit, but by keeping the roundness of the shoulder

I tried doing Samus from Metrioid to practice shading,I'm looking for advice;the light on her left shoulder doesn't look right, what's wrong with it?

Edit:
Slightly changed the shading on the shoulders

Define "good". What are you aiming to achieve? What is the purpose of these tiles? is this top view, side view? Without knowing what you're trying to achieve, no one can tell you how well or poorly you've done.

Do you have a specific type of rock/texture you're going after? What's the scale on these? Are these pebbles seen from above, or the side of a cliff? Cliffs aren't usually made of a bunch of distinct rocks like this.

It really helps to set out to achieve something specific rather than thinking in vague terms like [rocks], and think in terms of entire environments, not elements in isolation. Look at cool environments in real life (and in games if you want), see how they come together. It takes more than a rock tile to make the ground look like pebbles and a cliff to look like a cliff. By observing real environments, you can learn what makes them feel/look like those environments.
Thank you for the advice :)
To be honest,I made these tiles only to give purpose to that texture,so I didn't think about all of that:-[.
The only thing I can say is that the wiew is from the side(I was thinking to a platformer style while doing these).About the scale,a human could be 1.8 tiles tall.I'll make some descent tiles, but I don't know how many should they be and at what degree.
In the while I wanted to know if I'm going to the right direction

before reading your post,I tried to make the tiles connect better

I wanted to try to do some textures.
I wanted to start from rocks and that's the result

Made some tiles out of them

is it good?

Now that's a tree! and nice fix on the colors!
Looks all good to me, just take heed, in-case it wasn't what you were aiming for, that this tree is more of a swamp tree and won't really fit in other environments =]
I'd like to know which of the three edits is better in your opinion

Used a bit more red on the leaves,is it more natural?

Thats a good approach, but i think the tree trunk is a bit too massive (or treetop too small)

sorry for triple post, thought it didn't send them, then found out they were on a 2nd page :blind:(already reported myself to moderator)

Tried fixing shadows, but I don't know if its even noticeable

(light source should be 3/4 on the left and a bit from above)
Here I dared to change the shadows more than usual,is it better?

Looking a lot better. Its back looks too flat from the way you are shading it. There would be a highlight along where the back bone and haunches are and then it would more quickly turn into the core shadow than the way you have it. Think of the planes that make up the cats body. The back bone is going to be flush with the light while its side isn't. Right now a lot of the side of the cat is fully lit. Do something in between what you previously had and what you have now. That's basically what is shown in the link you provided with the foxes. Think of the meat chunks of the cat like in the link as well.

Also by your current light source, the whole tail should be lit with that highlight part and the front of the face should have less lighting.
Don't know if I understood what you meant, but here's an edit.
Not sure if it's better than before, but is the shading correct?(didn't know where to put the highlight on the haunch)
