Pixel Art / Re: Temple WIP

Hey Creepy665, I think you've made a good start.
One thing you should think about is trying to show the form of objects by using light and shadow. For instance, the pillars on the side of your temple would be cylinders, so they should be shaded like cylinders. I'd start off by trying to convey the shapes of your temple without using any outlines at all, just using light and shade. Even before you add any decoration on.

Good luck!

Hey, this is looking cool. I like your color choices and your enemy designs. I think the biggest problem with the perspective is that the large slime and the tree creature are drawn from a front view whereas the rest seem to be in more of a 3 quarter view. Here's a quick attempt to bring the perspective in your tree creature in line.

I don't know how well I managed but I'll try to explain what I did.
- Foreshortened the trunk like you did in your newer trees
- Increased the area of the top of the crown and reduced the shadow
- Tried to move the legs below the base of the trunk
- Tried to add some depth to the mouth and the eyes

I don't think I was completely successful, but maybe it'll give you some ideas!

I think the foliage is looking pretty tight. Definitely enjoying the lack of outlines ;D

I think the trunk could use a little work, it's currently a little noisy. One way to avoid this is to separate your highlights and your darkest shades a little. Here's another quick edit to show you what I mean:

Also don't be afraid to have your props interact with the ground. I added a bit of green from the foliage in the tree to create some shade around the base of the trunk. It helps to ground the object and make it feel more like it grew up rather than being placed down.

Here's a pretty brilliant tree process by st0ven if you wanna take things further: http://www.wayofthepixel.net/index.php?topic=10520.msg112358#msg112358 stylistically it's quite different, but the fundamental principals are pretty solid.

Hey, this is looking pretty good! One thing I'd suggest is to kick up the contrast in the foreground layer, specifically you need some darker shadows.

It's looking good so far, it's pretty big, I hope you have the motivation to finish it!

Hey it looks like you're off to a great start! I've always wanted to make a harvest moon style game.

One thing I'd suggest is to try and get rid of those outlines. They can often make sprites noisy and harder to read rather than clearer like you'd expect. And as a bonus, by removing them you get an extra pixel to play around with! for free!

Here's a quick edit of one of your flowers to show you what I mean:

I know it's a bit of a stylistic change but I think it makes the plant fit in more with the grass.

I hope that helps!

Pixel Art / spaceship crash
« on: March 17, 2013, 06:52:03 am »
Hey cool dudes, long time no see.

Here's a game mock up for a sci-fi survival game:

I'm having a little trouble with the crashed spaceship but I've been staring at it a little long so I thought I'd better post it for some C&C.

Thanks,

Akira

Hey! how did I miss this thread?

I actually love the little girl and the way that she doesn't belong. Atmosphere is made to be broken :})

No crits from me, just love <3. This is above and beyond my wildest SS dreams. I should really get around to fixing my gift for Dex.

I was away for a few days so I only just got to look at the pieces. Outstanding.

Jad: You mean it isn't finished yet? o_o. It is pretty mega awesome already <3
Dex: I'm glad you liked it. I don't know if I like the owl... I might rework it a little.

Merry Xmas everybody :D
