Pixel Art / Re: water tiles

I really love the WW water style, because it more lively and it feels like a lot of things are going on that area. And like some others who mentioned it, the tile fits more to the overall image in my opinion.

Maybe this animation might shed some light, I don't understand this persons explaination but he made this movie with 3d with 2d designs. The result was a very nice style :D

waa so much reply thx all!
what a surprise to see a link in the front page

so more about the making of to answer all the questions here ^^

we were 4 to make the movie, each one of us has touched every step of the fabrication (modeling/animation/rendering) but there was mainly 2 animators 1 renderwoman and 1 modeler.

all the database was modeled for the animation (sceneries and characters). so all the camera movement and animation were executed in 3d. but we tried to keep a 2d look everywhere in all the processes (no 3d cam, no 3d particles).

to give the overall aspect of painting in the movie. we developed some tricky shaders for the characters (even a hack of the mental ray contour). all the fx are 2d painted sprites or layer animations done with after effects. and all the backgrounds have been converted to matte paintings. for instance the bg in the 1st shot of the movie in a layering of 'cells' and the maya scene looked like a big aftereffects file so we have been able to render lots of cartoony details in a short amount of time

everybody have tried to understand the words of the actresses. but it is impossible since they speak the akajou, their native language in faerie world in fact it looks like french, and it is possible to intercept some word of it. so if you want i will try to convert their babblings in akajou-english

i will also post some making of movie soon in the gallery so stay tuned
oh and yes, i rigged the bouncing of the yellow one maybe i will post some of its crash test too

Can't believe someone will try to make a ripped work "his" and post it on Pixelation board. This guys are "pixel" artist/veterans some are professionals, and they take of their work to the extreme when it comes to details ;D. It would be very hard to fool them.

And for their attitude, yeah anyone who rips or steal someone's work deserves a thing or two.

I'm a bit bothered by the sides of the lips so I made a very small edit. I'm probably not the right person to make a suggestion since I'm new and all so I apologize in advance xD

Other than that and what others has pointed out, you are doing an awesome job :D a piece that will give you more experience

General Discussion / Re: Choosing colors and pallettes
« on: March 30, 2006, 05:28:22 pm »
Contrast is having large variation in your color ramps.  That is to say, instead of shading a cylinder from a gray slightly above mid-luminosity to a gray slightly below mid-luminosity and using 10 shades to do it, one should shade from almost-white to almost-black (with color included, generally;-)) in the same 10 shades.  Basically, if a piece is said to need more contrast, the artist should make the highlights brighter and the shadows darker.

And again, would somebody sticky this already?

Awesome Robalan! thank you very much.  And before moving on, a question regarding your explaination.. "instead of shading a cylinder from a gray slightly above mid-luminosity to a gray slightly below mid-luminosity and using 10 shades to do it" <--- Does this refer to Pillow shading?

Another noob question. When people start mentioning contrast in colors of a given sprite or object, what does this mean?

I think it's better that they don't show the number of votes for each entries. Seriously it does put down some people a bit, I know that we are aware of this when we participate but, this is probably a good way to minimize some arguments if it does occur. That's my opinion of course.

Anyway, guys everyone did a great job and I'm not saying this just to make everyone feel better, but this scenes are awesome in my eyes.   ;D
