Pixel Art / Re: sidescroller mockup [WIP]

Thanks guys.

Well I haven't really added anything yet. I messed with the palette a bit here and I tried to make the guy's position look a bit more natural. I'm trying something different with the shading on the sand. I tested some dithering in the bottom left corner, not sure if I like it or not. Thoughts?

Oooh. I like to use vellum and sharpies! You can make really clean looking stuff with those.

I'd say the dark blue is still a bit too saturated. The indentations around the buttons look a lot better now, but you might want to add a highlight and the lower edge. I think some shines on the screen might be rather nice too, it's really up to you.   :y:

Another thing you might want to think about is messing with the palette a bit. I think I would make the light blue a bit more saturated, and not so much of a lavender color, since the SP really didn't come that color anyways. Probably a slightly greener blue would be more appropriate. Also you might want to use a dark dark blue instead of pure black for the outlines, it might look really good.

Pixel Art / sidescroller mockup [WIP]

This is my first game mockup ever. for practice, but if it turns out nice then I'll consider making a homebrew game. I'm really not sure about the background, I might do some AA on it since it's not very easy to get something like that to look smooth enough without it. really not enough contrast between the character and the bg either. I might outline the character or change the bg to fix it.

meh the character isn't that great either.

Anyways critiques would be awesome. (Imma add more stuff and enemies soon, but I really need to sleep now. X.x)

The handle on the axe also isn't straight. His right arm really isn't defined very well either. It's looking good so far, I'd like to see this a little more detailed.   :)

Pixel Art / [wip] supah person title
« on: January 25, 2008, 08:15:22 pm »
Well here's my first post. I've been pixelling since MS paint, but now I use a Mac. For quite a few years, I've wanted to do some c64 stuff, and there's an Amiga 2000 about four feet away from me--unfortunately it's running NetBSD. (The last time I've used Amiga OS was some time in the Nineties.)

So here's something I've had for a couple weeks. It's not really done and I got stuck. So yeah.

This actually started as something I randomly sketched one night. The next day I went on and blocked in my first version. I left it alone for a while, I came back to it and fainted from the pure choppiness of it. I came back and redid most of it, and got this. Today I tried to make it shiny. I'm really not happy with how the "person" text came out when I tried to make that shiny, and after trying several approaches to the lines around it, I just went back to what I had before.

It's 240x160 with 6 colors. Maybe I'll make it into a game once I conquer my fear of backgrounds and making non-1bit walking sprites.

Also: I referenced the titles from Vice and Journey to Silius when  making it shiny. I'd appreciate general crits, as I'm hoping to improve.
