'Sprite' is a term for game development, not just game art. It refers to any 2D object brought into the game as an object, rather than as a background or larger piece of artwork. Technically, a sprite doesn't even need to be made from pixel art, it can be brushed together in Photoshop or even made from a photo. Of course, technically, 'pixel art' doesn't necessarily mean something is drawn dot by dot, since any 2D image that can be displayed online is pixel art.

*shrugs*

Typically, the term 'sprite' is used for characters of objects in a 2D pixel game.

I don't think any moderator action here would help, because most of the people posting Josh stories are new to the forum. Presumably they typed his name into Google, and these threads are the first to come up. Anyone that's a regular on these forums is already aware of what's going on (this is what, the third thread?) so I don't see any further action helping.

Josh has shown over the past half year that he has no intention other than taking peoples' money and doing no work. It's a shame because before he got on this path, his skills had really become phenomenal. I hope you get your money back, or at least the work he owes you.

To everyone else, don't ever pay someone up front for work they haven't done yet, especially someone you haven't worked with before.

Hi everyone,

Sven (Ptoing) pointed me to this thread. I helped Josh get a lot of his early gigs, through the company I work for (WayForward) and through recommendations to other companies. I also set up a website for him, which is why my name is listed as the register of joshastorian.com. Josh is an incredibly talented pixel artist, but he's had trouble finishing pieces on time (from what I've heard), and frequently requests money up front. I was contacted by someone a while back about Josh skipping out on a contract after being paid, but before doing the work. I contacted Josh and told him that he needed to set things right for that individual or I wouldn't be a part of him finding anymore work in the future. I didn't hear back from Josh on the subject, so I haven't recommended him since, and can't in good conscious recommend him currently.

Like I said, he's a fantastic pixel artist, but he needs to get his life together because he's ruining any potential for a career in the industry. Apologies to anyone who was scammed by Josh or is owed work by him. I see Josh online every so often so I'm not sure why he can't just finish the work he owes. But it doesn't concern me anymore as I haven't vouched for him in some time.

96 is up for grabs. I did a rough WIP but I won't have time to finish it anytime soon. Good luck to whoever takes the tile, and apologies for holding onto it for so long.

17
I'll take 96.

18
Well, I guess I'll take it then.
Shouldn't you leave offered tiles to people who haven't contributed one yet?

19
Nuts, I guess I missed my chance. Serves me for not posting here more often. I don't suppose anyone with multiple tiles reserved would like to give up a few? I'd like to contribute at least one tile, as would one of my co-workers. If not, any chance we could extend the layout a few blocks due to popular demand? :)

Thanks,

Adam

Try joshuaastorian@hotmail.com. In the future, you might want to contact one of the admins here for advice rather than making a post about something like this. I know artists having work they've yet to turn in can be frustrating, but this is sort of like airing dirty laundry.
