Pixel Art / I need critique on this animation stat!! (WIP 3 Attacks)
« on: January 24, 2009, 01:51:01 am »
Reason I ask for quickness(not demanding it, merely asking) is because I don't want to work on it more until I get critique.  Anyway enough of that.

a few things first

The first attack is lightning fast but I'm not sure how to slow it down and still make it look good.

Also this is mostly key frames and a few inbetweens, the times when he is not attacking are the inbetweens(I think...)

I know I still have anticipation frames, reaction frames and inbetweens left to work on but I just wanna know if I'm heading in the right direction before I continue.  Also if you have any cooler ideas for attacks let me know.

I did this real quick for fun(not entirely accurate gravity wise) it kinda looks like the enemy is dodging(i'm a failure)

General Discussion / Using 3D models to trace pixels?
« on: January 19, 2009, 05:25:23 pm »
Have you ever suspected 3D models being used as a base for tracing pixel work?  Specifically for rotating machines, and other mechanical devices.  Hell I even suspect that the sprites drawn in "The World Ends With You" were based on 3D models.  Oh and before a riot starts I'm not talking about directly screen capping from a 3D program resizing it and calling it a day.  I'm talking about taking a 3D model with the pose you want, shrinking it to the size you want and then tracing from it.

What do you guys think of using 3D models for pixel work bases?

Has anyone here used this technique?

Personally if I had the skills of constructing a 3D model that was rigged well, I would totally trace from it so that way I could get proportion, and angles perfect.

Take a look at these(I'm probably just being a fool)

I've also been told that the sprites in Symphony of the Night used 3D models, but that I don't believe.

I really wish I could remember more examples  :(

I'm doing a test to determine whether or not I have the skill to increase the sprite size I'm using in my game.  I figure since it's gonna be about fighting and doing cool moves it would be nice to be able to see the main character in better detail.

Here is the small version

and here is the new version that I hope to use.  I really hate the way I drew the jacket...looks fat and has a lame shape.  Plus the lighting...man I suck at lighting.

Pixel Art / (Animation)Mike's Animations for game*Updated AGAIN!*
« on: December 17, 2008, 03:28:24 pm »
Ok so I have been working on this animation(if you can call it that, and not just a bunch of frames) for shooting a fireball, and I wanted to give it some cool motion blur that will tie the huge jump in spacing together, but I honestly have no clue on how to make it look as fluid as something Capcom or Nintendo would do.

The animations are bit clunky right now and lacks the fluidity that I want.  They also lack cool down frames at the end, so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

I've decided to change this thread into an animation dumping ground.  I just finished my classes and I have a lot more free time, so I will be updating this at least everyday with a new animation, and with modified editions thanks to comments and critiques.

Seriously any masters of motion blur, please please lend me your help.  Thanks
Update I'll add this too
jumping that is used when not at a stand still This is an attack animation, it's kinda odd

I just finished a self redline of an older version of Aryll from Wind Waker.(the first version sucked compared to this one)  I'm at the point where I think everything looks good so I need some help pointing out things that are not so good.  I am by no means a master of anatomy so that is why I am posting her here.

** I should probably say that this is far from done and it is red outlined because that is just a basic outline of what I want.  I used red because it is easy to see and for some reason I just like using red.  The thickness, and messiness of the line will obviously be tightened up when I get closer to completion.  Also don't worry about the accessories, the "duck" on her head is actually a seagull, and she is holding a telescope in her hand.  Likewise she won't be naked in the final drawing, I prefer to draw what is under the clothes before I get bogged down with all that detail.**

I'm sorry I sound so harsh and demanding, I'm really bad at writing...

Alright here she is,

*Update

Oh yeah forgot to say, just in case anyone was wondering(anyone at all) I am still working on my animation WIPS that were posted in a recent thread, this is just another project I am working on.

Oh I should post Tetra as well, at first I thought it was perfect but I think some critique on it will be good.  I think it is perfect so that is the extent of my visual ability but I'm sure critique will help me see flaws.

Oh and here is my unfinished background

Here it is plain...it totally sucks right now

Is there anyway I can get the title changed , I want to put some more art up here specifically Ariel from the Little mermaid.

She is a bit more naked, but I will be adding her seashells in the final version.  (I don't know if I am the only one but I like having nude versions of my girl drawings  :P )

I hope I don't get in trouble for the nudity...

This one is way bigger...

« on: November 24, 2008, 08:21:15 pm »
I really need help on this guys/gals I kind of like what I have but I figured before I sent them off to where they need to go I should get some critique and comments on making the animations breathe a bit better.

The top 2 are the same character the one below this is different and is also a girl character.

Pixel Art / Finished walk animation but I need help perfecting(C+C)
« on: November 15, 2008, 05:52:50 pm »
This isn't a character I designed it is one of my friends(acquaintances) anyway.  While I like the animation somewhat(the legs are still messed) I can't help but feel that I messed up the actual character design.  I didn't have a good picture of the character standing straight up sadly...  I had a really hard time animating this character mostly because of the black outline style.  After I made a rough animation with basic shapes and what not I ended up having to basically reinvent it during the polishing stage because of the black outlines.  I did not enjoy that at all.  Anyone have any tips on how to rough an animation without having to completely redo it later?

Here is the original design I based the animation on.

Here is the animation

*Update

The walk does not naturally come out of the idle pose...so I messed that up big time.

Pixel Art / (WIP)Yo Yo what is up, Run Cylce
« on: August 11, 2008, 12:01:26 pm »
Yo what is up home spices?  I was wondering if I could get some comment and critique on this little animation of mine.  I really want to have head rotation but sadly I am not skilled enough to pull that off.  I eagerly await whatever is in store for me.

General Discussion / Wacom Pens
« on: July 01, 2008, 12:04:52 pm »
I don't want to get too off topic but I do have a wacom tablet but unfortunately the pen has met a fate worse than death.  I lost it.  And I have no idea where to get another pen.  It was for my 5+ year old Graphire 3 Wacom tablet.  I've looked all across the net for a pen but I keep coming up short.  I wish I knew if all the pens were compatible or not.  Which tablet do you have?
