Is it just me or does the door look a little weird? I mean I get what you are going for with the door having an angled pattern however for some reason my eyes keep seeing it as either looking down at an angled roof housed within the doorway or a sort of wall that is angled inwards, personally I think I would probably go with a straight pattern on the door or something that follows the profile of the archway however it could just be me viewing things weird. Also could be the shadow on the door giving a false impression

Other than that can't find too much to fault, looks good  :y:

General Discussion / Sprite sizing for 2D games?
« on: May 09, 2017, 05:25:53 pm »
Does size matter? For instance say I wanted to create something like Secret of Mana for instance is it better to keep most character sprites a uniform size or does it not really matter so long as they are all of a uniform scale? Should all sprites conform to some sort of rule when it comes to sizing (for instance all sprites sizes should be a multiplication of 16, eg 32 x 64 or 64 x 64) or can you have the sizes all over the place so long as they are even numbers?

Pixel Art / Re: Techniques and tricks for good looking tilesets?

Ok I think my cliffs are looking a little better

I tried relying less on the dark lines to highlight the crevices in the cliffside (though admittedly there is still a bit of that going on) and tried relying on shading more to give it a little more volume as well as trying to take into consideration more where the light is coming from. Also tried to dither the colours more for a better transition between colours.

Is there anything anyone can point out that could be improved?

Ah thanks for the advice, one thing I would like to ask is what is a good size for each tile? Personally I have just been going with 32x32 at a 2x zoom because as far as I can tell it seems to be the standard.

Also if anyone can post some examples of good RPG tilesets done right it would be a huge help.

So yeah trying to make a decent looking tileset for a game but everything just seems kind of off.

Does anyone have any good tips and tricks for achieving good looking grass, ground and cliff tiles?

Does not have to be from the SNES just anything that captures the style of those types of games.
