Pixel Art / Re: New, seeking help...

This is true -- I like David's edit as well (everything but the shading). I just didn't think it was the relaxed-type stand you're looking for...but your stance also is stiff. Think about the character, and how he would actually stand if he was at rest, and try to represent that. (I like the edits -- David's looks enthusiastic and Monsoon's looks aggressive. Even if you don't use their stance, take note of how they show emotion in the stance).

David, that pose does have more character (though I dunno if I'd call it more "natural"), but you have gone and pillow-shaded him!

Lil' anatomy crit (you could chalk the difference up to style but I think it would look better if the anatomy was more correct) -- his hands should hang down to about halfway between his waist and knees.

It is a solid beginning. I like it =) It doesn't have that flair of excellence -- but unfortunately, none of my stuff has that flair either, so all I can do is advise you to keep searching. Look into shifting some colors around, because right now they look alright, but they aren't going to "wow" anybody.

(I also agree that the post could be more interesting -- he looks a little like a plastic action figure right now...one of the ones without bendable joints).

As for nervousness -- you put forth a good effort, and there's noticeable improvements in your edits. You don't have to be a magnificent pixel artist in order to be an asset to the forum. Not a single thing to be ashamed of in your art or your attitude =)

Things to fiddle with: try using colored outlines *inside* the sprite instead of black ones (like at the shoulders and waist and neck) and try using some sharper shadows (there's a subtle top-left lightsource right now, but I think you could give it more depth). Not saying those things WILL be better, but they will at least be good practice ^_^

Dwarves and orcs and elves are all the same height?

But then again, you know what? I rather like it =) It makes things a little less typical.

EDIT:
Insightful comment of the day: a thing with wings would be cool. (But don't you dare make another dragon, I can't take any more dragons =p)

Contrast means the DIFFERENCE in brightness between two colors (so you can increase contrasts by making your brights brighter, your darks darker, or both).

You also need *way* more contrast -- I couldn't even see the darker red on the body 'til I zoomed in. (Even moreso for the skin tone).

Not bad. You know the right leg kind of looks like it's sliding, though?

(is it a fire or a tutu?).

Lol -- please make it a tutu?

As for me, the little guy is my favorite part and I noticed him right away.

I am not a big fan of that dithering on the sand -- looks more like sandpaper. IMO sand is s'posed to look swirly =)

One more thought: unless that little guy knows something I don't, his pose is oddly relaxed for someone who just had a demon spring from the ground in front of him (unless I misunderstand and the demon is springing from his shadow).

That is a very inaccurate definition of a troll.

A troll is a person who misbehaves to cause trouble or get attention. (I'm sure there is a better definition than that, though)

It's looking really good now, sedge =)

(the text-on-bg colors don't bother me but I can see how they would bother some people)

*four cheers*
