Even if it's on purpose, I still think it looks funny ;) Mostly just because it gives the face more depth and volume than the body, which is the opposite of what you'd expect, especially from a big round earth guy ^_^

The main problem I see with the earth is that the head is more worked than the body (it has higher contrast, smoother shading, etc) which just makes it look...funny.

Whatever your skill level on paper, it is not translating to pixel art, and one of the main reasons is that you don't challenge yourself enough. Make the fighter sprite! Make the fighter sprite, make it bigger than your usual pics, clean up the lines completely, color it, shade it, and show it. =) You might not even like how it looks, but you grow your skills by pushing them beyond their limits.

Perhaps it's just me, but I think it would look much niftier if you made the fins a different color, just so it's not a completely blue picture. (Or mix in another color on the fins, along with the blue).

With the lighting on the clothing being so dim, I'm surprised by the harshness of the highlight on the arm. I think you should bring the rest of the piece up to the same contrast as the arm, shading-wise (the metal is currently less shiny than the skin, which is just not the way of things =P).

It's a tricky pose for me to analyze, but I would say that the arm on our right looks too small, or the torso looks to big. It's hard to tell with the foreshortening and everything.

Additionally, the side of the torso that's on our right looks wrong somehow. Difficult to say why, but it's so unbalanced compared to the left side, and just looks funny.

It's tough to say why something looks wrong when I haven't spent enough time studying what looks right =P

Takam, your cartoon is very fun. ^_^ I thought it was very amusing, save for the fact that he crashes into a building. Because, duh, couldn't he see the building regardless of what the stop sign says? Far better for him to be blindsided by another car in the direction he did not look, tragic and cruel though it may be.

<3 The stop sign cartoons are almost all hilarious =D
