It's really dark and I can't see the colors without zooming in at least till 3x. It looks like he is wearing a black jumpsuit at 1x, with a brown top. I like the pose.

Why did you change the top of the red gate to the same texture as your rocks? Has it been overlayed with rock on the top of the gate? I noticed you mirrored the image for the most part, and you are trying to force it to be asymmetrical by adding detail on one side different from the other. Well, for instance, your rocks on the right have vines but they are the same rocks as on the left. It's still very obvious that it's a mirror. Also your shadows on the steps seem too bright compared to the shadows of the rest of the scene. Oh sorry, you fixed that mainly, but the far edges where the rocks/steps meet could use a little more contrast methinks.

I like it, not really anything I can crit, but I would say that it could use a scene, being lonely as it is. The lighting looks like low sunlight, maybe a setting sun desert scene?

It looks pretty bad still, but animation is a whole 'nother can of worms. I do have a few questions though to help you better.

Do you want the animation to look good, or just serve it's purpose to make things look like they move?
Do you want the squirrel to be more animal or human like? If he's more animal like, a squirrel run cycle, (go outside and watch squirrels) would be far more pleasing on the eye and accurate. I've never noticed them walking upright, although there was this one smoking a cigarette...... :)

And one last comment, keep it up!

Check out that link. It's a good breakdown of a walkcycle.

Up the brightness of the pond and add some waves, right now I agree that it looks like a crater.

Looks good but the black outlines would look better shaded.

Lovely piece so far. I like the contrast from dark to light, left to right respectively. But I think that you could do more over exposure on the dirt path/grass where the sky is very over exposed. I think it would work better with the contrast of the left, forest side. Not too much mind you, but I think some would work. Also the tree on the right looks low quality compared to the other, I guess wip? :) Also the water could use some more rendering, maybe you could put some wildlife , a fish perhaps under the water?

Quick paint over. Kinda rough but you should get the idea. Yours currently is some paradox like MC Escher.

When you run, when your left leg is forward your left arm is behind you. When your right leg is forward your right arm is behind you. Whichever leg is forward goes with opposite arm.
