Pixel Art / [WIP] Samurai Champloo Sprites
« on: February 24, 2009, 05:47:46 am »
Well I recently watched a great anime series called Samurai Champloo. It would be fun to make a little fangame from these sprites, which is the general idea, but a game doesn't come out of this, at least I had fun. I was trying to get the sprites in those classic "Naruto 'Jump Superstars'" or whatever style, but for some reason, Mugen did not turn out really mature looking. Crits are welcome!

I think the biggest problem I have here is the limbs and the hair. So any edits are welcome. :-[

Edit: One of the first things I realised I did wrong was color saturation, so I toned that down and it looks alot better already. However, I still need help with anatomy and whatnot, so critique is wanted!

Pixel Art / Soldier Yearly Remake | A "no outline" try at things..
« on: December 18, 2008, 05:44:03 am »
Ok so, I have been making a game with my team called World in War. I think I have some of the old sprites in my profile, which is kinda..sad. Well, after a year of development, we've decided to just start over from scratch and try to make everything better. My job is the pixelart. Here is what I have so far. It's also a small test of what I can do after a year's worth of tries, though I think I haven't improved as much as I'd like too...Anyways, here it is. I need help with making it seem less muted, a better pose, need help on what to do with the feet, and possible any other things you can think of. Sorry, I'm just really unsure of myself. I have not really sprited anything without outlines before, so this is a first as well.
I am going for a cartoony feel and look, with exaggerated features, though without outlines. Should I do this?

All crits are welcome and needed! Thanks. Oh yes, he has no arms, because this is a mouse aimer..

Pixel Art / Overwarm - Run Clyde, Run! Meet Gribbs! [new] PortaProblem?
« on: November 15, 2008, 08:23:06 am »
Ok well, I am working in collaboration with another person for a GM competition. I feel that we can win, because he is a great programmer, and we eventually have good sprites. With some help from you guys of course. I made this tonight, took me about an hour or so. It started out really bad, because I haven't pixeled anything seriously forever. But it turned out ok. The only problem is, I need Clyde to be much better looking, have a more boyish face, a much better body, and more dynamic overall. Once I get the main sprite done, its going to be on to animating the little guy. So I need all the crits I can get now. After all that smack, here he is:

Clyde

I am going for a slightly overexaggerated, cartoon cheery look, sorta like if Ratchet & Clank were sprites. I need help with the eye and face, and the hair as well. I'm pretty happy with the hat, but any crits are welcome.

Pixel Art / Hakishi Small Sprites [Yet another project]
« on: September 03, 2008, 11:13:10 pm »
Ok, so I used 5 colors in this, two grays, black, a yellow, and two browns [?]. I was seeing what I could do on a *very* small scale and with limited colors. I actually really liked what I've made so far, so feel free to critique everything in this little mockup!

Tree| Rock | Tiles | Swordman | House (My Fav)

Not a ton, but I thought I'd try making a game out of this, with a hack n' slash type gameplay. I might try some enemies later.

Note: The guy is animated, but its only two frames for walking, and the smoke [Above the house]  is also animated, but is not in sync with the rest of the tiles.

Pixel Art / Sokota | Clockwork Industria
« on: August 29, 2008, 06:31:00 pm »
Ok, so me and a friend are making a manga. Clockwork Industria. It's going for the steampunk look. I decided to pixel our hero, and this is what came out so far. It's a wip. I have minimal shading on it, but I posted it to make sure I got anatomy and colors right, because I would like to improve on my AAing and shading with this piece. I had some AA on it, but it was lighter than the board, so I took it off. Any help in that would be appreciated. Crits more than welcome! As are edits. ;)

Pixel Art / Spydermine
« on: July 30, 2008, 12:35:14 am »
Ok, so I'm redoing graphics for my team's game called Frozyn. Firstly, here is the main character, Patrick O'Grady:

Patrick O'Grady

Now, I'm pretty sure he doesn't have many problems, save for shading...Me and my team went through so many, so I don't want to change him, unless someone thinks he will look better in a certain way. I want to maintain the style, though.

Now, the real reason of this post. The Spydermine. Here is the old/new comparison:

Old/New Comparison [The "lightbeam" is for preview and explanation for programmers only]

'Blind' Version [No headlamp "eye"]

A teammates edit, which, in my opinion, looks less distinguishable from my original...

Ok, so the sprite is of a mine with legs, with a body of snow, and sticks of dynamite with a timer on them. In the game, the mine will collide and either light the fuse to explode, or explode on contact. In any case, I'm simply trying to give you an overview of what it is/does. Now, I guess what I'm looking for is some critique and general feedback, because I want it to remain the same shape/size relatively, yet I feel that I can improve on it, yet not sure how. So, any help is greatly appreciated.

Pixel Art / Topdown Humvee
« on: July 06, 2008, 11:04:25 pm »
Ok, so, I wanted to try something lifelike, and topdown seemed the easiest perspective to attain this in. I want to make a topdown, modern wargame, and decided to fall in love with the Humvee. I found a blue print for the Humvee on Google, here, and used that for my reference. Using the topdown reference, I made this:

Tan Humvee

The lineart is what I started with, and now I'm trying to do the coloring, but can't seem to figure out what to do really. Even looking at other references..So, I posted for some critique and help. Personally, I really like the lineart, I'm just not sure how to color it. In fact, I didn't even use all the colors in the palette! ???

Pixel Art / Isometric Community - First Shot at Iso
« on: June 26, 2008, 08:26:31 am »
Ok, well, I was inspired by someone else's work, so I decided to try a tiny bit of Isometric. Please crit, as always, and should I do bigger stuff? Or does size not matter too much with isometric? Also, how to shade isometric? With two light sources? Or just from the ground up? Feel free to edit and show me stuff!

Ok, now I've made a walk cycle! I'm working on all the animations etc. before I start on anything else. Also, should I try to go with 8 directions? Or stick with 4? or even try out 12?? I need help badly!
