Pixel Art / Re: Mental Image Crit.
« on: October 09, 2005, 03:38:12 am »
I've been waiting to see it since your first post.

The reason I didn't take part very much aside from my first post is simply because I'm already up to my ears in Castlevania. I've already been influenced by the things you've posted, and have my idea of the character. When you posted your sprite (if you do) I was going to go over it by how it compares to the reference, and then at an "artistic level."

I think maybe just make the objective of the topic more clear and more prominent.

Yeah, listen to Camus and follow your own intuition rather than listen to others.

Oh boy, something sort of realistic! Give me the roughest comments and critiques you folk can dish out.

My preconception go back to the NES days.

Aside from that I don't know what you really want us to say.

Thanks for the kind words, Sawtooth. I'll play around with him a little bit.

Oh no, you mirrored. What a terrible person you are now. Really though, I love your self-portrait and not just because I have a slight man crush on you. Only things that bother me are how straight your eyebrows are and the strength or the highlight on the bumps between your nose and lips. What are those things called?

I can't really comment on animation as I don't know animation. I do agree his run is a bit wonky though.

I'd also suggest playing around with the palette you have on this piece. It's not bad by any means, but it's not very interesting and doesn't provide enough depth. I'd work on the arms and pose a bit. His right arm seems to be bending too far backwards. In any case, I'm looking forward to seeing more from you.

General Discussion / Latent Medium

Hey everyone, I'm David. I run the site Latent Medium. In the past Latent Medium has been many things. It's always been my personal site, it was a board for awhile, and now I would like to get your opinions on its next incarnation.
(Note: This is just a mock-up of what it will look like. None of the backend has been coded yet.)

The concept is a big ol' showcase site similar to others out there (for example,, and, but with an emphasis on solely on the pixel community. I'm asking for your opinions on the concept and design now as it is much easier to change things right now than later down the road.

Please though, don't think that I'm trying to compete with PAO or any other site out there. If anything I would like to work in conjunction with those site. PAO is mainly about teaching how to make good pixel art, while I would be focused on showing those who have done so.

All comments would be greatly appreciated.

Comments and critiques would be the bee's knees, hombres.

A little sprite I did.

MadToaster inspired me also. I made this awhile ago, but wasn't worth it's own topic.

This will be finished, I promise...

I like to call this one "Stealing From Monsoon."
