I saw it and liked it immediately maybe could use just a bit more contrast. Reminded me of a pj weekly contest winner: http://www.pixeljoint.com/pixelart/56326.htm

Keep going!

Looking good so far!

I would like to comment on the fifth guy down on your character chart.
The side view looks a bit odd. I'm assuming his head is facing the direction that hes walking. but it almost looks as if the nose piece on the helmet is actually the back of the helmet and the guy is not looking where he is walking, as if distracted.

Not sure if that makes sense, its hard to explain, great work anyway.

After gazing upon cures monstorz, I was losing much sleep to their awesomeness and wanted to make one of my own.
After trying, I realized that artistic talent probably would help the matter. I suppose one way to develop skill, I guess, is to try... so thats what I did.

I came up with this:

After a quick critique from a well renowned artist whom of which is a regular here on the boards
(As soon as I get permission from said artist, I will post his edit which is in my opinion superior to mine.) its been a day and I havent heard from Elk, so I'm posting it anyway. He would have wanted me to share I think ;)

I ended up with this:

Been working on this on for the Weekly PJ challenge.
Found the 4 color restriction to be a huge challenge for me, but using double wide pixels makes up for it :/
Used Ptoings Palette.
The background is supposed to be clouds. May be some contrast issues due to the low color count, could use some ideas on accomplishing better contrast.
Am hoping to place with this one, but there is alot of talent out there, so I may be aiming a bit high... lol. its okay either way. (not gonna happen, lol, was still fun anyway tho.)

and the ref, I scaled it down to the size I need and did a trace, I hope people dont feel like I cheated, was still hard imo.

Pixel Art / Re: New "artist" here.

Thats a good question.

I think its different for everybody. and it can depend on the art program your using.

Some people start with line art and then color it in.
Some people do basic shapes then do the shading and then add details later.
Some people place pixels down dot by dot and some I guess would use the line tool now and again.

So I guess the answer to that question is: It depends..
As for your pic, the questions you are asking would probably be more suited to our general thread or perhaps the intro thread.
Try to keep the question specific to the piece your working on while in the pixel art thread ;)

Well, You've come to the right place, but we don't do magic tricks here. By that I mean were not going to just take your first sprite and transform it into piece of "omg drool candy" for you. This site is basically the wiki of pixel art. You can find help with just about every aspect of pixel art.

I guess we should ask what your aiming for? What is it your trying to pixel? my guess would be a space shuttle. If that is what your trying to convey, congrats you've done it. Now if its a fish or a boot or whatever, then I guess my next question is, Do you have a reference or sketch? Or is it it a freehand boot? Are you going for photo realistic or cartoony? Did you want to stand out as pixel art or do you want the lines and edges to be smooth and seamless?

Maybe if your unsure visit www.pixeljoint.com to get an idea of how you want your pixel pieces to look. after that visit our general section and take a looks at various post that explain A.A., Selout, PillowShading, Dithering, etc.

in any case welcome to the boards and have fun pixeling!
