Pixel Art / Re: [C+C] Sci-fi Power Suit

In terms of anatomy, you've got the motion right but studying the appendages would do you best.

His hands and feet are both very tiny for his body, and his arms especially are short. That being said the suit itself is very hard to read, especially because of the color.

I'm assuming you want the 'Tron' look with the white lines, right? If that's the case, don't be afraid to make them exceptionally pop. The way to do that is to darken the actual suit itself, take a look at this picture (linked instead of posted because of the size of the picture) Tron Suits

By having the suit at such a light grey color, you're undermining the detail of the white lines. But don't just litter them around the suit like you have right now, it looks very cluttered and aimless, like they were randomly placed as I'm sure they must have been. Notice in the Tron suits that the neon colors follow a continuous form, they appear to accent the suit by trailing on the figures' anatomy.

Aside from that, do some research on fabrics. If he was coming from that angle, the cape would actually be swaying the opposite direction.

That's my two cents.

Pixel Art / Re: First Project

Wow, that's... wow xD Good job!

I'll make an environment my number one priority, and then create a new pallet to reflect it. I especially liked how you shaped yours to vaguely resemble a head and I might just steal that idea from you...

Pixel Art / First Project
« on: August 03, 2016, 03:53:52 am »
As I stated in my first thread, I'm a newbie to professional or 'beyond amateur' level pixel art, but was unsure of where to start. I followed suggestions in that thread to start small, and liked what I came up with.

I realized that I need an Avatar for the boards so I figured, why not start there?

So here is a pretty simple ice-esque object (to fit my handle, of course) that is essentially just an upgraded form of some pretty typical shapes and forms.

I am quite happy with how it turned out, but it doesn't look quite as smooth as I'd like when it's at about 200% zoomed out or so. I think the colors might be a little too similar or at least, the highlights.

Tear it apart, please.

I apologize if this isn't in the right area, but I think it fits better here than the general section.

I should start by saying hello! I'm ArcticPhreeze, a current art student sophomore with a lot of confidence in my ability with traditional art mediums (Drawing, Oil Painting, the pretty standard art school thing) but with a burning desire to do Pixel Art and spriting.

I had a lot of exposure to pixel art in high school with some horrible sprite fanart for things like Naruto and Dragon Ball, back when they had a really large online community who basically just copied styles from a few different games. It was incredibly amateur and nothing I made was objectively good at all but it was more than enough for me to develop a serious love for the art.

I apologize again for rambling, but this thread is essentially a question. How can I translate my traditional art skill into pixel art? Where should I begin, or what should I be looking to do to get myself set up? I have GraphicsGale and I am competent enough with my tablet to use it, but it still feels like I'm missing something? I know that it requires a lot of practice but Pixel Art is a lot more overwhelming than traditional medium, and I can't help but feel that I've not really gotten the picture yet.

If anyone could help me out, it would be greatly appreciated!
