Pixel Art / Re: [C+C]Need the Roast for Improvement
« on: December 03, 2016, 01:32:08 am »
my character is suppose to be an example for how I want character designs in this small game I'm trying to make with my Computer Science club at school. the theme is aliens attacking a medieval kingdom and I want to make a template for a character to base it off all the other human like characters in the game, but I'm not very good at this, like choosing colors or atleast putting them in the right place. I don't know the process for alot of this, I want to learn anatomy for human figures but Idk if the human figure can be conveyed in a size this small. Plus I want a character in a smallish dimension, Because the people in my club who want to do art are really complete beginners in art in general and pixel art makes not sense to them like look at what one of them made.

and then compare mine

I don't consider myself that good at this yet and I have a long way to go but there is a gap between skill level. I just want
to make a character template that is simple, in a 3/4ths perspective. I know this doesn't look very 3/4ths atm but I'll improve on that once I get some kind of look going. I don't know if I wrote to much but that is my speel. But atm no one knows what to do in terms of a character design because I'm the only one in the club who can do something like this. They ask but don't have much to show in terms of art. They don't even roast me when i post art they just say its "good" they don't have any premise for judging this type of stuff and know no means of the theories and practices in this medium. So I'm the one who may do doing most of the art or none of it because I have too much experience...

TL:DR - I want to create a simple character template so my club can work on, but they want different character designs but can't draw well or make pixel art and I might have to carry the load.
Note: we are high schoolers and all they do is waste time and aren't committed.

I tried incorporating the changes you guys left me with some critiques from others and I don't know if I'm doing the color thing right.
Like picking my colors and seeing if they are correct and correspond and stuff.

thank you all for posting i think this thread is more than enough at this point lol.
I 'll look at all of these and learn from them ever so slowly cause this is a lot to read and grasp.

Just make more art. Developing any kind of feeling for anything just requires experience. As a quick fix, just start with a big canvas, start pixelling anywhere and crop it later.

append: Also most tools allow resizing the canvas without scaling the pixels, so you could also just start with whatever dimensions you think will suffice and then later change the canvas if you need more space.
Thank you this is actually what I needed.

I don't know how big of a canvas I need for pixel art... I usually just work in a 64x64 area and make the best of it and try to do something but I feel limited when I have big ideas and I don't what dimensions to use. how do I get a feel what dimension to use when making a creative piece of pixel art?
