Pixel Art / [C+C] Run cycle
« on: June 02, 2016, 04:33:17 am »
I've avoided animating my sprites for years but I'm trying to get better at it lately ;)
I would like to hear some thoughts about this:

Looks nice :)
The only thing that bugs me is that the face looks kinda empty except when it's facing right. The extra hair pixel makes the eye look bigger and makes it more... manga-style? Which looks cool but clashes with the look of the other sprites.
But don't mind, maybe It's just me ???. It's not a big deal anyways.

Yeah, I didn't have time for more. I just wanted to know if something felt wrong because I couldn't tell anymore :)

Pixel Art / [C+C] Head animation

Hello guys.
I'd like to hear some critique for this animation I've just done.
It's a very simple movement but I don't know how to feel about it after watching it for so long  :)

I wouldn't know what Vulpix is supposed to be if I saw it alone. It lacks contrast and it's too small to be readable.
That's just the most obvious example, but a lot of them share the same problem.
You should try to make them larger and maybe using a palette from someone else :)

It feels weird because it looks like he's only moving one leg each step. You have to make the other one move forward.

I definitely notice the difference between the whites you mentioned, maybe your monitor needs calibration Curly? The two dark blacks look the same on my monitor though, maybe I also need some calibration.
It's new so it definitely needs some calibration :) But anyways they are so similar that you won't use both in the same sprite.
And that's the point of making a palette, right?

The "almost black" color I was talking about was this actually
I think it's 95% black and maybe you won't need both.

Those sprites look pretty good!
But you can still remove a lot of colors from the palette.
I'm not a pro but you have pure white (255,255,255) and 254,255,252. The difference is not noticeable so it's better to remove one of them.
Same for the 100% black (there are two pure black squares btw) and the 95% black in the middle. I don't think you having those two colors in the same palette can be useful :)

Pixel Art / Trying to make an idle animation.
« on: April 17, 2016, 03:02:54 am »

Hello people.
I made this simple guy only to try to make an idle and maybe running animation.
It's crappy, but I don't know how to improve it  :) (Only 3 frames atm)
