Pixel Art / Re: [Feedback] [CC] FE style game sprites and animation

It's way clearer now :)

I'd like to see it at the original size though.
I think there's still some things I'm not too sure what they're supposed to be, but it has improved a lot.

The mage looks good!

The tiles are still too noisy overall and they lack volume. It's hard to tell what's floor and what's a wall and it should be clear at first glance.
I'd make the top of the walls lighter or way darker and waaay less noisy or detailed.

In Photoshop you can use the fill tool and uncheck the contiguous option so it replaces the old color with the new one wherever the old color is (in that layer).
You can also use the magic wand with the contiguous option unchecked again to select all skin colors for example and then ctrl+U to change their hues, saturation and brightness (ctrl+H to hide the selection outline). It's a quick way to try new colors but if you have many colors selected it will probably mess up the contrast and hue shifting so you will have to fix that later.

The character looks great in 1x and 2x. The tiles are pretty noisy and the stairs maybe stand out too much in comparison to the gray bricks.

When the right leg goes forward the right arm should go backwards.

Cute!
Yeah both are cool but the second is more readable and better for animation.
I would add some contrast to the axe/hammer? and between the legs and the hair maybe.

I'd do something like this

I just lowered the bg's saturation, increased the brightness and shifted the hue a bit towards blue. The same for the nearer rocks and grass but less.

Looks pretty good. Seems like you've done some research on pixel art before and you're good at drawing.

The tall character is too dark. I guess that's the point but it would look better with some more contrast

Gray colors usuall look uninteresting and dull. I don't know anything about the character but the sprite could look more interesting with some color.
I made a very quick edit just to give you some ideas of how you can fix or polish some things.

I made the girl's pupil shape a bit cleaner and made the hand bigger. Tried to make the legs look more natural and changed the darker skin color so it pops out a little more (I made it redder and more saturated).

I love the style and design by the way ;D

General Discussion / Re: A question to the pixel art veterans!

Here's my experience in the most indie gamedev world:

I started making pixelart many years ago for fun, but not daily (not even close) and not with the idea of earning money with it until two years ago when I decided I was able to make stuff for games.

I've been working on games since then and I've rarely earned more than 300€ in a month. And there are many months that I don't see a dollar because either I finished a project and can't find another in some time, (there are months with lots of new offers and months with barely any offer. And you don't get every job you apply to, or it's bigger than you can handle, or you're just not good enough for what they're looking for...) or because something happened and didn't have time to finish when I wanted...

Most of these games aren't even developed by studios or many people. It's just a programmer with a low budget from their dayjob and wants to make a game that most likely will never be finished or released ;)
And they usually pay per sprite and not by hour, which can be both better or worse. I've made lots of money in an hour some times and also less than I wanted other times.

I get burnout very easily so I usually don't spend more than 2 hours a day pixeling lately anyways. It's rough when you make stuff because they tell you and you don't really like it, at least for me. I'm a bit lazy too heh.
So I could earn more but not always, because as I said, there aren't too many offers that fit you every time.

Here's something from my first little job for reference
(click to zoom in, ctrl+click to zoom out)

And one of the latest

I guess that's where most of the people start so I hope it's informative. Anyways I'm not sure if you should be thinking too much about that stuff yet.

What a huge post :blind: Keep pixeling

Looks cute and cool. And yeah it looks like a character from Spiral Knights (no problem though)

The blue parts look a bit weak. Specially because I read them as glowing stuff.
There are 1024 colors in that image if I did the maths right, so I guess it's kind of the same as picking them from scratch? xD

General Discussion / Re: Re: What software do most pixel artists use?
« on: July 22, 2018, 05:04:06 pm »
I guess the most popular software right now is Photoshop, Aseprite and GraphicsGale.

I personally use Photoshop for backgrounds and sprites because I'm very comfortable with it and it makes sketching stuff easier for me.
Then I use Aseprite for animations or working with palettes and PyxelEdit for tilesets.
