2D & 3D / [C+C] Cyberpunk universe between heaven and hell
« on: March 02, 2017, 06:07:30 am »
Hey guys, I'm working on this concept for a point and click adventure game. I want to define the mood of this universe in the game (there is an alternative brighter, happier universe too). I'm having difficulty unifying the background with the foreground. Was wondering if anyone had any tips or suggestions about that?

Pixel Art / apprehensive walk cycle
« on: February 04, 2017, 07:57:51 pm »
I started work on a character for a horror game. This walk cycle is supposed to be apprehensive as the character is constantly a little intimidated by her surroundings and uncertain of what's around the corner. Please provide some helpful C&C!

Pixel Art / Krusty's Super Fun House Remake (Mock-up)
« on: March 31, 2016, 09:28:59 am »
Hey guys, for the weekly challenge over at pixeljoint.com I'm trying to imitate an artist's style. The artist I chose is Snake (you can search his profile on there) who does some beautiful retro game mock-ups. I'm trying to remake an old NES/SNES game called Krusty's Fun House (google image it). The piece is only half finished but I'm a bit unsure where to go with it. I'm having some difficulty with the design work, especially how the walls look. The character will be pixelled in Snake's style near the end of the piece, but the difficulty is with the design/colours, and I'd appreciate any assistance or direction. I want to really make it look like a fun house instead of a warehouse or gas plant or something, which I feel would be the main improvement over the original game. At the same time Snake uses quite dark colors in the background and brighter in foreground, so I'm finding it difficult to pull off that feel in his style.

Progress at time of writing this post:

Blue pillar is probably going to be a spiral coloured one in the foreground that you can jump behind?

Edit: Here is a mood piece I put together copy and pasting stuff that landed on the mood I am looking for. A slightly dark and sinister toy-like place. But yeah I actually am totally stumped with how to properly convert this concept into a platformer with clear distinction between the foreground and background (one of Snake's characteristics imo):

General Discussion / Suggestions for game title screen
« on: March 26, 2016, 11:46:58 pm »
Hi guys I need to make a title screen for a game, but haven't made any of those before. I'd like to give it an old school feel. Does anyone have any good pixel art examples or suggestions? The theme of the game is electronics, you basically travel through circuit board copper traces munching on bits (I know it's weird, but it's fun).

Pixel Art / Realistic human skull reference
« on: March 21, 2016, 03:14:49 am »
I've been studying anatomy and today was the head. I made this animation of a skull to help myself and others as a reference for shading heads at different angles. Let me know if it's useful.

Pixel Art / Feedback on animation before pixelling
« on: March 17, 2016, 02:39:47 am »
So I started doing a random anatomy study in photoshop inspired by The Incredible Hulk and Blanca, and it ended up as a full 8 frame walk animation. Thought I would get a critique before I pixel it and add details. Specifically I am aiming for realism applied to a stylized fictional character. When I pixel it progress will be added below.

Pixel Art / Sci-fi RPG
« on: March 14, 2016, 08:16:45 am »
Hi, I am daydreaming of building a sci-fi RPG where you start in a 1940s mental asylum and must escape. Everyone thinks you're going insane, but you are convinced you're fine. You have a chrono disorder which means you travel randomly into the future (pre-programmed moments in the game). There is a romance involved. You discover more and more evidence to the contrary and finally realise maybe you are insane after you discover that you killed your own lover... a kind of Dr Jekyll, Mr Hyde crossed with Memento and The Time Traveller's Wife in an adventure game. I'll keep things posted here as they progress.

This is my first idea for the ward, totally need C & C as I come from a more coding background traditionally. Pixels are transparent behind the headboard bars so the player can be seen walking behind them.
