Depending on your style, I don't see a big issue with your colors here.

The biggest issue I have is with the eyes.  I feel like they should be more of a focal point and they are dull and too much going on.

I gave it a try here:

They can be other colors besides green but just seemed to fit here and still make sense. (I like the darker eyes when zoomed in but at smallest scale I like the bright ones so still clear at small size)

The other area that bothers me in places is the shadow on the white adjacent to the eye tentacles.  I'm not sure it is the contrast but the hue/saturation being a little too close where that color could almost be used on the tentacle, causing the perception to be blurred where the tentacle ends.

Some of those spheres seem too close to each other, if they really were spheres they'd be further apart, if you want a reference, try to see if you have some old marbles and stick em together or something.

All of them look too close together?  Or which ones, or one as an example?

Is there any kind of rule to help determine this?  As a beginner it is difficult to just look at a reference to learn from.  Need rules or principles to help break down the reference.

Thanks, and I don't disagree but it is simply difficult to judge when lacking experience.

Areas to improve?  I have no clue how a sphere's shadow ontop of another sphere should look and couldn't find a reference.

I took several shortcuts/cheats as I didn't have the time to commit: ellipse tool (GIMP), copy/paste spheres, rotate tool (on an ellipse) to create the big shadow).

I'm learning to draw right now so thought I would try to convert to pixel art:

For the storage you could add some shelves or crates. They would show that they are meant for storage.

Maybe instead of one large compartment for storage I'll break it up into small hatches where each compartment is for one item.

Here's an update:

Thanks Piovoso.  Good eye for detail on the star density.  Right now I am focusing on the interior but good suggestion on the metal paneling and will see where I can incorporate on the outer parts showing.  Will try out some floor tiling to see what isn't too distracting too.

Note: the top and bottom areas are storage compartments.  Thinking about how to make that more obvious but as for potential game want to make it simple to display what the contents are.

WIP especially on the shape of the exterior of the ship.  But any feedback welcome on the characters and interior of the ship, such as instruments and panels.

Thanks

Well, you're only going to get so much out of two frames.  It mostly looks fine, but the highlight in the legs should probably stay on 1 side, whereas you have the highlight starting on the outer edge and ending up in the middle.  She has no groin.

Thanks, I see that now.

Trying with 3-frames now:

Same style, new character, first draft.  Feet and arms are bothering me.

Thanks for explaining that all.  I think I may leave this at 2 frames as it more of a humorous light hearted project but will definitely use those tips on other projects!
