Commercial Critique / Re: The CC suggestion thread.

Ristar (bunch of screenshots in the link).

I think Ristar will be a popular CC, because the game is just one huge hue shift.

But I do see what you mean by using darker colors and such, but your remake isn't so cheery!

I did this by choosing other colors in the 256 palette (I did not alter the palette in any way).

I'm not claiming this to be the best way to reduce saturation or make a cheery scene, but I just want to show that it can be done without using MS Paint-like colors.  I do want to note that the colors I chose are actually much brighter, yet much easier to look at.

I probably should have changed that rock thing, since it stands out now (I didn't think of it.)  Oh well.  Just use lighter greys since they have absolutely no saturation whatsoever.

Don't just use these tiles and call it done, though, Bloodblade.  Actually make an effort to improve them as well as making better color choices.

EDIT: Edited some of my post.

I'm not an expert on choosing colors and hue shifts and such, but you could probably go for pastel-ish colors instead of MS Paint colors.

I don't mind the rustiness, since it's a Zaku and not a shiny Transformer or Gundam.  Plus, it's not meant to be serious.  I just wanted something really round to practice dithering on.

Here's my current edit:

Yeah.  I attempted to due a brownish hue shift instead of a blue one.

Well, that seemed a bit...  Easy of a change (though, given the nature of the Zaku, I think I would rather hue shift the other direction and lower the luminosity a notch)...

I'm wondering, though.  Is there anything else wrong with how I dithered it?  I would like to know what is acceptable and what isn't acceptable when it comes to this sort of thing.

This isn't really a serious piece.  I just decided, "Hey.  Let's see how much I can shape that shoulder using just two colors."

So uh...  Yeah...  There isn't much.  Just a bunch of dithering

Yeah.  You're right that the Victory Gundam is out of proportion.  I've been working at it, though, and it's been more and more in-proportion every time I've made an update (the original version was horribly skinny).

Before I draw anything on paper, is there any problems with any of the actual pixeling I did?  Poor anti-aliasing, contrast, etc?

I'll probably start dithering as well, to put some mix in the changes of shades.

This is the update.  I fixed the torso quite a bit, now I am a lot more satisfied with the shape.  I also made the face point a different direction, to be more consistent with the helmet.

Thanks for both the praises and criticisms.  The two things you mentioned I can work on (especially the light source).

I'm still not satisfied with this, mostly because some things look weird, and lots of experimentation has caused a bit of inconsistency here and there.  None of the less, I think it's worth posting here by now.

I didn't draw this on paper this time.  I looked at a screenshot (which was much larger) of the V1 Gundam from the Victory Gundam anime for a start, then used mahq.net's Victory Gundam profile lineart to help draw things that weren't visible in the screenshot.

By the way, I didn't go for either the overly dithered/rusted look or the shiny look (well, I could have made it a bit shiny (not too much where it looks chromed, just light shining off metal), but I keep forgetting to think of it).
