Pixel Art / Re: [feedback] Tree + golem
« on: January 07, 2017, 08:10:36 pm »
For the golem I think you should use the same dark colors you used on him on the tree to give it more texture and shape because right now the difference in contrast between them is so stark that they don't appear to be in the same plane or a part of each other.

Personally, I don't use a tablet for pixel art at all  :D I find the mouse to be more precise and comfortable.

As for recommendations, I have heard many good things of Huion tablets and I am thinking about acquiring one soon. I use a Bamboo onetouch for misc digital art and it has never given me any problems so far (until I forgot about it in a closet for a long time and then mice chewed its wire).

My vote goes to amiga classics like Albion and Anvil of Dawn.  ;D

I think the right knee stays bent too long, or when the legs obscure one another I lose track of which leg is which. Maybe you should change the color so one can tell them apart better? Also the torso and hands need to move as he goes.

I think those may be 3D renders that were then retouched manually.

Pixel Art / Need some help with some monster tiles
« on: October 09, 2016, 04:42:42 pm »
Alright so I am working on a stylized roguelike and I am pretty happy with how my walls and items turned out but I really hate how my monsters don't occupy the entire space of their 32x32 squares.

I would really appreciate some edits to show me how to make them chubbier and big-headed so they fill as much space as possible while still being recognizable since I feel stuck right now.

EDIT:

Pixel Art / Re: [C + C] Dullahan (tips on lighting and shading)

I think he looks great so far ;D

Maybe you should work on the outlines a little more so it is less jaggy, particularly around the neck shield and the left hand.

I am not sure about the dithering on the shoulder plates, maybe you should add another color so the color transition is more smooth? I am pretty sure his left hand should be casting some form of shadow over the cloak, and maybe you could add some folds to the cloak?

I think what the bomb animation needs, apart from the explosion being bigger, is anticipation, you know? So like it needs to get smaller before it expands into the explosion.

I've managed to remove any sort of cohesive shading across the whole thing

You should try restricting some colors to the parts of the animal that are in light and some colors that you'll only use for the parts that are in shadow and add more contrast between the colors because they may all be a little too similar.

It looks better!

But dithering and placing dots between colors don't give the appearance of fur. You should try adding short stripes and lines like you did for the wings instead.

Here is an old example of an edit I did for someone else:
