General Discussion / Re: The Non-Exhaustive Restriction Guide

Kleincomputer KC85

The KC85 was a computer produced in the 1980s in the GDR. The computers made use of a palette of 16 foreground colours (actually only 14) and 8 background colours and their screen resolution was 320x256.

Foreground palette (white and black are duplicated):

Background palette:

On the KC85/2, the screen was divided into 4x8 pixel rectangles. Each rectangle could contain 1 background colour and 1 foreground colour.

The later model KC85/4 had the rectangle size reduced to 1x8, but still the same limitations.

A hires mode was available for the KC85/4 as well: it had the same resolution like the standard graphics mode, but four colours of a fixed palette could be freely used without further restrictions.

Hires palette:

:P The absolute weirdest part to me is that I claimed that tile specifically because the first thing I saw in the definition of robotriot's rocky edge was the outline of a fat belly, a mangled but extended arm with wrist bent, and a boob.  It all fell together that way in my head oddly enough.

Haha, this is also one of my favorite parts. Very imaginative :D

Among my other favorites are Arachne's retroish scifi scene, tomic's ship, big brother's spaghetti dish, ilkke's animal in #91 and the monsters in the sports arena by Perciv@l. But really, there are so many great areas and tiles by everyone, your eyes just keep jumping around from point of interest to point of interest.

Wow, some of the transitions work really well and it's hard to tell where one tile ends and the next one begins. Good work everybody!

What about a 3D pixelart challenge? I created a stereo image of one of my old pictures as a test, see below. Props to those who create actual rotated 3D objects instead of just depth layers :)

[in case you don't know: you have to cross your eyes until both images match, take the street light as a reference point for example. It might be easier if you're further away from the screen]

Pixel Art / Re: WIP~Tree-Water-Grass!!

Yes, you're already showing some good progress. I have a suggestion for the sky: get rid of the squiggly lines there as well. Our sky is pretty uniform and doesn't have any noise in it. However, a gradient would be nice - the sky is usually a brighter blue towards the horizon and gets slighty darker and more saturated further up (you don't need a lot of colours for the gradient though). You should also make the hills in the background shift more towards blue so that there's a better sense of depth and perspective in the picture. That being said, the perspective of the river and the tree does look way off - the water looks like it is viewed from the top, while the tree seems to be more of a side-view. Also don't forget to make some kind of transition from the grassy hills to the river, there could be a river bed with sand or rocks, or plants hanging over the edge.

#89!

You can't take it, you've got two adjacent tiles :( But thanks for trying ;)
