Pixel Art / Re: how to fix
« on: October 14, 2017, 07:00:52 am »
Here's my advice, start working on smaller pieces to practice the concept of light sources, color ramping, and perspective if you want to improve as an artist. You'd be surprised how fast you will improve working on smaller pieces, then you can apply the concepts you've learned to larger pieces.

As for this piece, I'd recommend appropriating a light source for it. The image is flat, and has no depth. aka looks like it was cookie cut out. Your colors are to bright. Try working on a neutral colored background so you don't end up over saturating your colors.

Go with whatever one you personally like the most, as it's your creation, but I agree I do like number one the most. Number 3 looks like quality was lost. and actually looks more unrealistic to me than one. 2 the colors are too similar for my taste. you can argue which tree in the forest is best for as long as you want, and drive yourself crazy.

In numbers one and 2 you lost some depth in the legs, and now they look like they are joined together, like a mermaid or a short dress or something. I think the key to this artpiece is to not overthink it, or overwork it.

The first one is very detailed, you can visibly see everything it's supposed to be, and have, clearly. It has depth, curves, lighting and shadows. 2 and 3 lost that, it became more flat and just looks sort of unrealistic.
I personally liked the over aliased look of the first one because it actually looks like her skin is ICY. It has a nice shine to it. Thats just what I think.

However for the smaller version, I would go with number 3.

Graphics gale is pretty strange with the way it imports colors. If the belt could have been made accidentally 2 different colors, and thus graphics gale ended up erasing parts of the white it thought it could with gray. It auto adjusts colors to fit the gif's palette. If that makes sense.

If I'm quite honest, I can't really think of anything much to improve on this. The style and colors are great. I like how visible the details are already. I'd call this a job well done.

I haven't done anything pixel related in almost a year now.
I could probably make it smoother if I adjusted the time of the frames, maybe.

Hair is good, only problem is the color is over saturated/ 2 bright.

God I love this piece. I really cant wait to see more from you. If i was to point out some things it would be that the shield isn't proportional to the arm perspective wise., your shadows should also be harsher. They are too soft. also the sword should be casting a shadow. Just because something's a different color, doesn't mean it sets it apart as a new object. You gotta think about the depth of field and shade accordingly. The shadow on the ground should also have a shadow for his tail and sword. Other than that Really love this design, fantastic.

Good job, your first sprite looks like a shitty space station 13 sprite. The next one I can actually tell its sasuke so you've stepped miles away from your start. Good job.  :y: You're working on a small scale so thats also good. Remember to work on a medium colored background, and work with less harsh colors. The blue on his shirt is too intense, and his hair is a bit too gradient. Keep it up and you'll eventually get your desired goal.

It has a lot of stray pixels. Aside from that, the image itself isn't really a well planned/ thought out piece of pixel art. You just use noise/random colors to fill in most of the image. It doesn't have a definitive light source either.
