I've tried with a lighter shadow in the collar and I kinda like it. Also, I've tried with the eye color as background.

Any better?

Hi!

I have an edit trying to declutter background and giving less emphasis to the frame, but I think I have failed
I have also remove the white outline, that I didn't like from the beginning.

I'm really struggling with the color in the background. I have tried  more and less saturation, more and less brightness, a thousand of different hues... but I'm not happy with any.

AA is sometimes interesting, and your edit, 32, has some beautiful uses of my color palette. But I personally prefer a style with less smoothness, so I think I would call this portrait finished.

Anyway, I am always interested in more points of view, so I'm still opened to any suggestion or discussion ;D

Thanks for the quick feedback. I've done an edit:

I agree with the collar issue, so I've played around a bit with the neck area.

In the other hand, I've reduced shadows in the right part of the jaw/chin, I hope this helps with the reading of the pose Achrileg was mentioning (head slightly raised).

Hi there!  :)

I've have abandoned pixel art for almost a year, and I'm recently going back to it, because I always fall in love with it again.

Now I'm working on a self portrait:

I'm struggling especially with two elements.

The first one is the mouth, I think the darkest pixels on the left are not working quite good, but can't figure out how to fix it without changing the general gesture.

The second one is the white outline, I don't hate it, but don't like it neither. The problem is that without outline the character blends with the background, but I really want to keep that background (it is intended to be kind of a computer terminal, that's why is so dark)

All criticism is welcome. I hope to see you often from now on.

Pixel Art / Re: [WIP][C+C] Project Lockpicking
« on: October 21, 2015, 01:57:57 pm »

I've been working a few hours in the color palette, changing some colors, removing others... and I want to call it "finished", but I really will appreciate some criticism because I think the color-related part (especially at so few number of colors) is my weakest point.

I think in general is working fine, there's only 12 colors (13 counting the background color) and I can use it in many different ways to simulate unique materials, but my main concern is if should I add some extra colors (maybe 3 or 4) and add some AA to the scene (I have to admit I like the way it is right now, without any AA).

P.D : I have changed the thread's subject, because it has no sense now, there's not more about projections but about my Lockpicking project, in general.

Hi!

I've been working a little bit in the lights and metal texture. I have made also a "complete" view of the lock.

Here's a detail of the different shadings I have tried. I think the third one it's my favorite.

Finally I've been playing with other shape for the lock, more readable in the "complete" view, but I'm not sure how it's been working with the "gameplay" view.

It will be great if you could give me your thoughts about this  :) :)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Edit:

I have done some experiments with the color palette. I've tried some more realistic "metallic" colors and I not sure if I prefer that type of palette or a more fantasy one (like the one I've been using until now with yellow, purple, blue, etc)

I think I'm going with the "realistic" colors, but I will appreciate so much all your criticism with this particular subject.

Also I've thought in adding some "noise" to the metallic texture (like little holes in the plain surface). Here's an example

What do you think?

I've tried different clothings and hair styles, also different facial expressions and finally a diferrent pose

I think I'm going with this for the win:

(The text in the picture has no much sense in english, that's why I haven't translate it)

Edit:
I've done my best translating it to english  ::)

it's a little pedantic pun (about "loose women" and "banners" in spanish, that's why in english loses so much sense)
